Chances continue to go begging for Hertha as Mittelstädt's cut-back is cleared from in front of the Schalke goal. Darida is set up in front of goal but he curls his effort over the bar. He's had two assists already today, that would've been a treat for him.

WIDE FROM UTH!
Finally a chance in the second half as some space opens up on the edge of the Hertha box for Uth. He fires a shot at goal but it's just wide of the mark once again.

The Brazilian collects possession 25 yards from goal with space ahead of him. He smashes a strike at goal which Fährmann parries wide and Alderete just can't reach it on the rebound. One-way traffic here.
ALDERETE ON TARGET!
Hertha recycle possession well after a clearance from Schalke and Darida is found in space down the right. He cuts the ball back into the Schalke box where Alderete controls and shoots. Fährmann makes the save low down to his right.
Schalke's earlier second-half substitute is having to go off here with a knock to his right knee, with Can Bozdogan on in his place.
ALMOST A THIRD...
Cunha's cross intended for Cordoba in front of goal is blocked by Nastasic, and his sliding interception sends the ball narrowly past Fährmann's post. A bit too close for comfort there.

Becker has gone to right-back, pushing Stambouli now into midfield while Skrzybski is onto the left wing where Harit was before.
Skrzybski and Becker come on here for Schalke with Harit and Mascarell going off. A change of system looks possible here for Schalke.

BACK WITH A BANG!
Cordoba's first game since the start of November and he has a goal. Cunha races forward through the middle and finds Darida on the right side of the Schalke box. He plays the ball back into the middle to meet Cordoba, who duly slots it home through Schalke's last line of defence.
The Frenchman is cautioned for his challenge with Schöpf.

A few loose touches in this second half, most notably from Cunha as he looked to bring down a long ball.
The home side are a goal to the good and they get us back underway for the second half.

GUENDOUZI HAS ANOTHER GO
It worked last time so why not try again? The Frenchman races forward to be found by Cunha on the left side of the Schalke area. He pushes the ball back inside before searching for the far corner with a curler, but Fährmann has learnt his lessons this time.
A first yellow card for Schalke and it's for Hoppe, who brings down Guendouzi.
GUENDOUZI OPENS THE SCORING!
It's a second Bundesliga goal for the Frenchman and he celebrates with a ball under his shirt, a sign to his partner at home? Cunha's shot is blocked on the edge of the Schalke box but comes to Guendouzi, who controls and curls his effort perfectly past Fährmann into the far bottom corner.
HOPEFUL FROM SCHÖPF
Some space opens up for Schöpf down the right as he races into the Hertha box. He has Uth waiting in the middle but goes for goal himself and only finds the side-netting.

A corner is cleared out as far as Plattenhardt who goes for power with his volley on the bounce. This one slices wide of Fährmann and the Schalke goal.

WHAT A CHANCE!
What a piece of play from Harit who sends an outstanding through ball forward for Uth into the Hertha box from the halfway line. He shoots across goal with his right but Schwolow matches him with a superb save of his own, pushing the ball wide with his fingertips.
SCHALKE DEFENDING WELL
Hertha have enjoyed more of the possession in this first half but last-ditch blocks, interceptions and challenges from Nastastic, Kabak, Oczipka and Stambouli have been ever-present so far.

Hertha burst into life on the counter-attack as Schwolow's long ball is met by Cunha, who sends Lukebakio in on goal down the left. He shoots first time, but Fährmann stays big to beat the shot away.
HOPPE NOT FAR AWAY
An unorthodox effort from Hoppe as he meets Oczipka's cross with his back to goal and his volley loops over towards goal and Schwolow is forced to parry it away at the last second.
That early strike at goal from Plattenhardt is as good as it's been for Hertha here in the early going. Schalke's shape is compact and solid and proving tough for Hertha to break down so far.

SHOT ON TARGET
Lovely passing movement from Schalke earns Uth a low shot from 20 yards out. It's an easy save for Schwolow, but this has been a bright start from the away side.

Gross starts with two strikers here, with Uth and Hoppe leading the attack. Uth is looking to drop off and link up with the midfield early on here. Harit is out on the left, with Schöpf on the right.

The teenage American calming his nerves with a few early touches, claiming a penalty as well, which did not go his way. It's just his second start in the Bundesliga.
Plattenhardt decides to go for goal with a free-kick from an angle on his left foot, curling a shot from 25 yards. It bounces just in front of the Schalke goal and Fährmann is forced to push it behind.

He previously led Grasshopper Zürich to two Swiss Super League titles, earning him a move to Tottenham Hotspur in the English Premier League. He then returned to Switzerland and won the Swiss top flight four more times in charge of Basel, before spending less than a year at the helm of Bundesliga club VfB Stuttgart in 2009.
