DORTMUND GO TOP OF THE LEAGUE
A perfect performance, in the end, from Borussia Dortmund, who were made to work for their win in the end. It came down to a second half performance that will send fear to other Bundesliga teams as to what BVB are able to produce when they're firing on all cylinders. Jadon Sancho, Paco Alcacer, Marco Reus and Julian Brandt all on the scoresheet to start the season.
DREAM DAY FOR DORTMUND
This second half performance from Dortmund has been scintillating. After struggling to breakdown Augsburg in the entire first half, BVB have cut open their opponents with much faster interplay and well-taken chances. Nothing but positive things to take from this, but Augsburg can also feel proud of their performance.
GÖTZE GOES CLOSE!
Clever corner from Sancho as he plays it low along the floor to the near post. Götze controls it with his back to goal and turns to take a shot. It's towards the near post, but blocked behind by the BVB defence.
BRANDT SCORES ON DEBUT!
A fantastic ball from Witsel over the Augsburg defence and an outstanding finish from Brandt, with a volley on his left foot in front of the Yellow Wall. This has been the perfect day for Dortmund and their debutants.
The captain's job is done as he is replaced by Mario Götze. The armband moves on to Mats Hummels, on his first game back with the club.
DORTMUND'S BLOCKBUSTER EIGHT MINUTES
Three superb goals in the space of eight minutes have taken this game away from Augsburg. The away side still pushing on, looking for a way back into this one, but it looks like it may be too far for them to come.
WITSEL FINDS HAKIMI...
Lovely off-ball movement from Hakimi and well spotted by Witsel. His chipped ball to the back post is perfectly met by the full-back, but his side-footed volley at goal goes wide.
ALCACER LOVES AUGSBURG
With his brace so far today, Paco has now scored six of his 20 Bundesliga goals against Augsburg. That coming in just three appearances so far as well.
HUMMELS HEADS WIDE
The defender rises high but heads wide from Hazard's set-piece, and now the first two changes for Dortmund and a debut for Julian Brandt.
VARGAS GOES SO CLOSE!
Lovely interplay around the edge of the Dortmund box between Pedersen and Niederlechner, and the ball finds its way through to Vargas. He opens up and shoots at goal, but sends his effort just over the crossbar.
Sancho teases the Augsburg defence with body movement, not letting them know where he's going. In the end, he goes nowhere, but the ball does as Sancho finds Alcacer on the penalty spot. The Spaniard opens up his right foot and places the ball in the Augsburg top corner.
DORTMUND NOW IN CONTROL
Sancho curls a lovely ball into the Augsburg box which is parry down by Koubek but only as far as Alcacer. The Spaniard is so composed and plays the ball to his left as he is being closed down by the goalkeeper, leaving Reus with an open shot at goal to beat two Augsburg defenders. He does, and finds the bottom corner to make it 3-1.
An unorthodox goal, but Dortmund won't care. Witsel is in down the left wing and fires the ball low across goal. It bounces all the way through to the back post and Sancho picsk it up. He composes himself and smashes the ball into the far bottom corner. He then looks to the Yellow Wall and points to the BVB badge. A sign of the future for Jadon?
Dortmund now shooting towards the Yellow Wall in this second, while Augsburg going towards the end where their fans are situated. No changes at the break, but a change of boots for Jadon Sancho...
AS IF IT HAD NEVER BEEN AWAY...
The Bundesliga back with a bang here in Dortmund in the first half with both goals scored so far coming in the first three minutes of the game. Augsburg caught BVB sleeping in defence with just 31 seconds on the clock, before Alcacer responded just two minutes later. Since then, it's been all Dortmund with chance after chance on goal. However, the home side are struggling to breakdown a strong Augsburg defence and could need a change of tactic to open the game up in the second half.
CLASH OF HEADS IN THE BVB BOX
Manuel Akanji and Andre Hahn both down here after a clash of heads with the pair going for the ball.
SWITCH OF TEMPO NEEDED
Dortmund being reduced to slow build-up play and long shots in the last 10 minutes or so with Augsburg a difficult side to breakdown. With the pace they have on the wings and trickery in attack, a change of tempo may be in order for them to get beyond this strong backline.
AUGSBURG BEING PENNED IN
This could be a first half of survival now for the away side as all 11 players are penned back in their own half. The odd moment is coming to counter, but the BVB defence is quickly snuffing it out so far.
HAZARD FINDING SPACES
The new Belgian is making well-timed runs in behind the Augsburg defence and is being found with long balls from the Dortmund midfield. The end product hasn't been there so far, but he is showing all the right ideas.
ANOTHER STRIKE FROM DISTANCE
This time it's Witsel who has a goal at goal from range, but Koubek is once again well-positioned to parry the ball away. The new Augsburg shot-stopper has made a superb start.
BIG CHANCE FOR REUS
A lovely cross-field pass finds Sancho inside the box at the far post. He finds Reus on the edge of the box with a first-time pass and the BVB captain smashes a shot at goal, only to see Koubek once again make a big save in the Augsburg goal.
INTENSE START HERE
Dortmund are trying to calm this game down slightly and take more control, but Augsburg's pressing is not helping them at all. As soon as the home side enter the AUgsburg half they are met by a wall of defenders. Reus just had a header go straight at Koubek, as BVB continue to look for a go-ahead goal.
ALCACER GOES CLOSE
Dortmund finding their groove now. Lovely interplay between Sancho and Reus sets the captain away on goal. He has defenders in front of him and plays across to Alcacer who takes a first-time strike, but he drags it wide of the mark on this occasion.
WHAT A STRIKE FROM WEIGL
Just as Dortmund were beginning to calm the game down, Julian Weigl goes close to the Goal of the Day. A cross into the box is cleared as far as Weigl who volleys it back towards the net, forcing Koubek into a superb save. From the corner, Hummels heads wide...
WELCOME BACK TO THE BUNDESLIGA!
You missed it, didn't you? And it's good to see nothing has changed in this crazy, fantastic league. Two chances so far in this game and two goals have been scored. Both teams going all out to attack each other and find the net. Today, the first goal came after just 31 seconds.
AND DORTMUND ARE LEVEL!
Jadon Sancho is racing down the right wing and towards the edge of the Augsburg box. He plays the ball behind the defence to Reus, who beats the byline to cut it back to the front of the goal where Alcacer is perfectly positioned. He pokes the ball past Koubek and we're level with a goal apiece instead three minutes.
WHAT A START!
Inside the first minute of the game and the away side are ahead. Vargas has the ball on the left wing and plays a lovely pass to Pedersen on the overlap. He has time and space to pick out Niederlechner in front of goal, who taps home with ease to open the scoring. What a stunning start to this game!
The Yellow Wall is celebrating the life of club legend Manni Burgsmüller who passed away in May. The stadium is sold out, of course, with 80,000 fans creating an incredible atmosphere in Dortmund.
NO BÜRKI FOR BVB
Dortmund's usual No.1 between the sticks misses out today due to injury. He had been in training, but not for enough days, says Dortmund's sporting director Michael Zorc. Instead, Marwin Hitz starts the opening match of the season today.
CAN DORTMUND TAKE ADVANTAGE?
Bayern Munich opened the season last night but were held to a draw by Hertha Berlin at the Allianz Arena. Dortmund can go into an early two-point lead to their potential title challengers this season, and as we saw last season, the smallest points difference can make the big difference come the end of the season.
A REPEAT OF LAST YEAR?
In case you forgot about the madness that insude in this fixture last year, it truly was one of the most memorable games of the Bundesliga season. Paco Alcacer came off the bench to score a second half hat-trick. capped-off by a direct free-kick in the 94th minute to win the game. A game that went each way and could have ended any way. Can Augsburg end with a smile on their face today, or will Dortmund take maximum points to start the season?
