Bayern Munich’s Felipe Chávez joins Magdeburg on loan after contract extension
Felipe Chávez has signed a contract extension at Bayern Munich until 2028 and will spend the 2026/27 season on loan at Magdeburg in Bundesliga 2.
The 19-year-old attacking midfielder, who made his senior debut in Bayern’s 8-1 win over Wolfsburg in January, had a loan spell at Cologne in the second half of last season, coming off the bench seven times in the Bundesliga.
“Pippo took the next step in his development with his appearances at Cologne and should now get regular playing time at Magdeburg. We’ve extended his contract because we believe in his potential for the future,” said Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund.
Magdeburg finished in 10th place in their fifth straight season in Bundesliga 2 last term. Speaking of the move, sporting director Peer Jaekel said: "Felipe has an exciting profile and should make his mark as a creator and a finisher. We believe our club can offer him the right conditions to take the next step and establish himself at the top level in the long term."
Chávez, who will wear No.11 at the Avnet Arena, added: "Magdeburg offers young players very good opportunities to develop and take the next step, so I'm very happy about the chance to get regular playing time at a high level here and improve."
Born in the Bavarian town of Aichach, Chávez joined the academy at nearby Augsburg before making the move to Munich in 2023, working his way through the youth teams to make two competitive appearances for the senior side. The left-footer also scored a free-kick in Bayern’s pre-season friendly win over Heidenheim.
Through his Peruvian father, he is eligible to represent the South American nation and earned his only senior cap in a friendly against Chile in October 2025.
Chávez could feature as Magdeburg play their third game of the new Bundesliga 2 season at home to Holstein Kiel on Sunday. Petrik Sander’s side opened with a chastening 6-1 loss at home to Eintracht Braunschweig but then responded with a 3-0 victory at Osnabrück. They are also through to the next round of the DFB Cup after beating Bahlingen 4-0 last Sunday.
