Another long-range attempt
A familiar story for the Wolves: Damar shoots from distance, but it's well wide.
83'
Just a few minutes to go
Will either team manage a late winner here, or will this be the first goalless draw of the Bundesliga 2 season?
81'
Plenty of experience
For the final ten minutes, Wolfsburg coach Strobl brings on two more midfielders, including Arnold, who makes his comeback from injury.

Another shot wide
Another chance for FCK: Berisha shoots, but doesn't connect properly and the ball goes wide.
71'
Zielinski again
Another good stop! Substitute Kanaté gets a shot away, but the young 'keeper parries the effort well.
68'
Double sub
As the match approaches the final 20 minutes, Wolfsburg's intensity is dropping off slightly, and so they bring on two sets of fresh legs in the shape of Besio and Shiogai.

Şahin sends an inviting cross into the penalty area, but Zielinski is there and punches the ball clear.

Side netting
The stadium briefly erupts, but Damar's shot - deflected by Gyamfi - hits the side netting.

Long-range shots abound
Dabar has another go from distance and Krahl makes another good save. That's already the fourth shot from outside the penalty area by Wolfsburg in this first half.
25'
Krahl still struggling a bit
Reese cuts inside and shoots, but Krahl makes the save, and holds his hand afterwards. It looks like he's still feeling his earlier injury.
24'
Evenly matched
Both teams are taking almost the same amount of time to win the ball back. This is also reflected in the possession statistics (50-50).

Just wide
FCK play a short free kick from the right to Ritter. The captain's shot from just under 20 metres goes marginally wide.
22'
The pass was lacking
Skyttä picks up a decent head of steam, but instead of playing it off, he opts to shoot himself. There was probably more joy to be had there for the Red Devils.

Can Krahl continue?
The FCK fans are chanting the name of the goalkeeper. It looks like he's going to carry on for now. Onohiol is warming up as a precaution.
18'
Reese goes close...but he's offside.
Damar plays in Reese, who is then one-on-one with Krahl. His shot is too close to the 'keeper, who is able to parry, but injures himself in the process. In the end, it's pulled back for offside.
16'
So close
That's the best chance for Wolfsburg so far! Reese plays a square ball to Damar, who, from just outside the box, shoots narrowly wide.
13'
Another chance for the away side
Kaiserslautern combine down the right flank - Rasmussen finds Asta at the far post, who is completely unmarked. Unfortunately, the winger can only head over the bar.
9'
The Wolves awaken
That big chance for the visitors seems to have woken Wolfsburg up - they're now playing with a bit more purpose going forward. However, two harmless wayward shots are all they have to show for their efforts.

Managerial mismatch
While Lieberknecht is about to take charge of his 341st game in Bundesliga 2, it's Strobl's debut.
Teenage goalkeeper
Zielinski has been at the club since summer 2025, but today marks his competitive debut for VfL. The Polish goalkeeper is just 18 years of age and could still be playing in the under-19s.
Lautern without a genuine new signing
Elvedi, who has returned to Kaiserslautern after a six-month loan spell at Fürth, is the only 'new' face at the club; all other players in the starting XI were also present in the second half of the season. The 'real' new signings such as Yardımcı, Frees or Tazemeta are all on the bench.
Wolfsburg's new attacking power
In Glatzel (94 goals in Bundesliga 2), Reese (48) and Hornby (23), the VfL attack consists entirely of new signings. The trio has a combined tally of 165 second-division goals!
Only two remain
From Wolfsburg's starting XI in the relegation play-off second leg in Paderborn, only two players are in the starting line-up today as well: Souza and Kumbedi. The squad overhaul following relegation was massive, with six new signings in the starting formation, including Angély, who has returned after his loan spell.
