Full-time: Cottbus 3-1 Hannover

Cottbus secure an impressive victory against Hannover. The hosts took the lead via a deflected free-kick, Hannover then took control, equalised and should have gone into the break in front. Due to a moment of carelessness from the 96ers, Cottbus retook the lead. After that, Hannover fell apart completely and conceded a third goal. The match winner today – despite Cigerci's brace – is without doubt goalkeeper Lotka.

Five added minutes

Can Cottbus hold on? It's looking increasingly likely.
90'

Keeping it calm

Cottbus are now running down the clock. Hannover have nothing left to offer.
87'

Stopped

Hugonet fouls and stops a counter-attack. He receives a yellow card.
85'

Is there more to come?

Can Hannover come back into this? At the moment it doesn't really look like it.
84'

Ciğerci calls it a day

The man who scored a brace has done enough today and is now allowed to take a seat on the bench.

Composed from the spot

In the 3. Liga, Cigerci converted 16 out of 17 penalties, and remains just as cool from the spot one division higher
79'

Quadruple substitution

Titz is not at all pleased with what he is seeing here and makes a statement by bringing on four new players.
79'

79'

Just over the bar

Cottbus have far too much space. Hannemann is allowed to simply drive the ball forward and, from distance, fires the ball just over the bar.
78'

Hannover unrecognisable

Since the 2-1, the 96ers have barely seemed to be part of the game. Cottbus are clearly in the driving seat here. Can Hannover find their way back into it?
77'

Next substitution

Bittencourt had already been suffering from a few cramps. Now he gets to call it a day.

Jubilant scenes!

Butler, on as a substitute, sends the Cottbus fans into raptures!

Is that the decisive goal?

Hannover fail to clear a corner. Erlein lays the ball back into the space behind, where Butler coolly fires into the far corner - 3-1.

Unbelievable

Cottbus had felt completely out of the game, and now the Brandenburgers are suddenly in the lead. What a game we have here!

Penalty awarded!

Hannemann just about reaches the through ball. Loretz comes in too late. Before that, Allgeier had pulled back, seemingly because he had not spotted the Cottbus player.
67'

Drinks break

The players take a brief moment to cool down.
65'

Lotka again

First Oudenne is denied. The ball then falls to Gindorf, who forces Lotka into another save.
63'

Almost the perfect introduction

Bundu crosses to the freshly substituted Pichler, who heads just a few centimetres wide of the goal.
63'

First substitution

Titz also sees that his side needs a new impetus and brings on a striker for a striker.
62'

A lot of idle play

Hannover are currently unable to build on the strong phase of the first half. Cottbus are simply too solid defensively.
56'

Too selfish

Gindorf chases down a long ball and cuts inside. Instead of laying it off, he takes on the shot himself which doesn't trouble the Cottbus goalkeeper.
54'

Over!

Gindorf hits it with full force, sending the ball high over Lotka's goal.
53'

Things are getting dangerous

Gindorf is fouled centrally in front of the penalty area. There is a free-kick from 17 metres...

Half-time: Cottbus 1-1 Hannover

Both teams were level at the start. Cottbus' goal was somewhat fortunate, coming from a deflected free-kick. After that, Hannover grew stronger and deserved their equaliser. Only because Lotka has had an incredible day today does the score remain 1-1.

It simply isn't meant to be

Lotka is the best man on the pitch today. First he clears against Bundu from close range, the rebound falls to Gindorf but the goalkeeper is quickly back on his feet to push the ball behind for a corner.
41'

Lotka again

The man is a Heyer today. After the ensuing corner, Þórðarson shoots from distance. Lotka stretches himself and makes the save.

Hannover are quick off the mark and win the ball back quickly after losing possession.

Briefly dangerous

Loretz cannot control a back pass cleanly but before Engelhardt can nick the ball, the goalkeeper manages to clear the situation.

Chance goes begging!

After an attack down the right, Gindorf gets on the ball and tries to force it over the line from five metres out. First Rorig blocks it and on the second attempt Lotka snaps it up.
36'

Next chance

Gindorf crosses to the far post towards Källmann. As Erlein misjudges the ball, the Hannover striker is relatively free to head it, but his effort is too wayward.
34'

From distance

Källmann notices that Lotka is standing too far to the right in goal and shoots from distance towards the left. The goalkeeper is alert though, gets across quickly and claims it.
34'

More dominance

At the start, both teams were still on a level playing field. By now, however, Hannover have seized control of the game and are keeping possession.

Hannover equalise!

If it doesn't work down the left, then try down the right. Bundu drives forward. His cross is cleared, however, but the ball drops straight to Neubauer on the edge of the penalty area. The midfielder unleashes a powerful strike into the bottom corner - 1-1!

Fingertip save!

Once again Oudenne drives forward down the left. Once again he cuts inside and manages to get his shot off. This time too Lotka comes out on top, just barely deflecting the ball onto the crossbar.

Drinks break

It is hot in Cottbus. The players are allowed to cool down briefly.

Hannover play a free kick from the half-space back into the centre at the far post. There, Hugonet heads over from close range.

18'

Hannover continue

The 96ers seem to have been woken up by the goal conceded and are playing with more intensity. Gindorf is denied again by Lotka.
15'

Centimetres away from the equaliser

Hannover refuse to give up and go direct. Oudenne drives forward and shoots. Lotka manages to deflect the ball just enough for Zayda to clear it off the line.
camera-photo

Cottbus lead!

Cigerci, taking the free-kick, aims for the top right corner. However, Bundu deflects the ball into the net. Loretz had already committed to the corner, and was unable to shift his bodyweight to the other side. The Bundesliga 2 returnees are ahead!

Cottbus are back

The Energie fans are fired up for the Bundesliga 2 return.

Redeemed himself

That really should have been the lead. Lotka plays the ball to Gindorf's feet. The Hannover player tries to slot the ball past the goalkeeper, but Lotka makes up for his mistake and gets a hand to it.
8'

First shot on goal

Tomiak wins the ball on the edge of the opposition penalty area. He plays it to Bundu, who cuts inside and has a shot, but it's only wide by a few centimetres.
8'

(Not yet) dominant

The well-known possession play of Hannover has not been on display so far. Cottbus, too, have had their fair share of spells in possession.

Bittencourt's Cottbus comeback

In April 2012, Leonardo Bittencourt last turned out for Energie, when he was just 18 years old. 5,224 days later, he is stepping onto the pitch for Cottbus for the first time again.

Professional debut for Zaydan

The 19-year-old left back is the big winner of the pre-season at Cottbus having taken advantage of captain Borgmann's injury absence, making a lasting impression at left back. Today Zaydan starts, having not yet played a single competitive match for the first team!

Cottbus team news

At Energie, Lotka is the new number 1 and successor to Funk, the promotion hero who departed to VfB Stuttgart. Top talent Erlein, on loan from Leverkusen, immediately gets to showcase his versatility, as the regular right back starts in a central position. Also new to the side are returning players Bittencourt (pictured) and Copado.

Hannover team news

With new keeper Loretz and centre-back Hugonet (whom Titz knows from Magdeburg), there are two new signings in Hannover's starting eleven. Making another attempt is Gindorf, who was loaned out to Aachen last season and finished as top scorer in 3. Liga with 28 goals.

Claus-Dieter Wollitz on facing Hannover

"Now it's about finding the right arguments against a mentally strong side to win the match - which is absolutely possible."

Energie hold the edge

That cup success is one of eight Cottbus wins over Hannover, who have won six of the teams’ 16 encounters to date. The last of those victories came in May 2008, when the Reds triumphed 4-0 at home on the final day of the 2007/08 campaign.

Cottbus 1-0 Hannover - previous meeting

These teams have only met once since Cottbus’ relegation from the Bundesliga at the end of the 2008/09 campaign. The east German club triumphed 1-0 in the first round of last season’s DFB Cup, with Tolcay Ciğerci scoring the game’s only goal.
