The decisive punch

information
xGoals
The xGoals value of a club is calculated from the sum of all goal probabilities (goals and shots on goal) of that team. During a match, it’s easy to see whether the club is performing better than expected (goals > xGoals) - or maybe even higher (xGoals > goals).
Kaiserslautern's lead is deserved - but the xGoals comparison shows Regensburg that more could have been possible.

Onto the pitch

The teams are walking out to the pitch in Kaiserslautern. The crowd at the Betzenberg greets both teams loudly, twirling their scarves.

Of all the places...

...for Julian Pollersbeck to make his comeback, it is Kaiserslautern. In 2016/17, he made his professional debut in the Red Devils' jersey, playing 31 second-division matches for the club. He spent a total of four years at FCK (2013-17), going through the famous Gerry Ehrmann goalkeeper school.

Three changes for Jahn

Andreas Patz makes three changes to the Regensburg starting XI from the 0-2 defeat in Münster: Ziegele and Ananou move into the back three in place of Bulic and Wurm, while Geipl returns to midfield in place of Viet.

Fresh width

Markus Anfang makes two changes, swapping both wingers: Jan Gyamerah is missing, and former Regensburg player Erik Wekesser moves to the bench. Instead, Jean Zimmer and Florian Kleinhansl start today (for the first time since matchday 20 and 18 respectively).

Hanslik for Yokota

With Daisuke Yokota unavailable, Daniel Hanslik returns to the starting lineup for the first time since matchday 20. Hanslik and Ragnar Ache last started together at the end of November. In his last 10 starts, Hanslik has been involved in an impressive 10 goals.

Regensburg starting XI

Pollersbeck - Ananou, Ziegele, Breunig - Pröger, Kühlwetter, Hein - Ernst, Geipl - Hottmann, Adamyan

Kaiserslautern starting XI

Krahl - Elvedi, Sirch, Bauer - Zimmer, Breithaupt, Kleinhansl - Ritter, Kaloc - Hanslik, Ache

Markus Anfang's view on Regensburg

"Regensburg are very difficult to play against. Many people might look at the table now, but that's exactly where the danger lies. We need to start the match with high intensity, find our rhythm, and get the fans behind us."

Andreas Patz's view on Kaiserslautern

"The match against Münster was a bitter setback against a direct rival. It hurts, but nevertheless, we remain positive. We still have a chance. We're six points away from the relegation play-off spot. We won't give up and we'll do everything we can. We need to start picking up points."

Strong at the Betzenberg

Consequently, Regensburg has never lost at Kaiserslautern. In three away matches in Bundesliga 2, they picked up a 3-0 victory (October 2022) and two 1-1 draws. Additionally, Jahn prevailed against this weekend's opponents in the DFB Cup in September 2020 after a penalty shootout.

Good head-to-head record

Regensburg have lost only one of their last eight competitive matches against Kaiserslautern, and have even kept a clean sheet in the last three meetings between the two teams.
