The last home win
Darmstadt celebrated their most recent home win in this fixture back in April 2017 when these two teams were in the Bundesliga. Jerome Gondorf scored the winner in stoppage-time that day.
Goals guaranteed
In the last three encounters between these two teams (all in the Bundesliga 2), 21 goals were scored at an average of seven per match! Schalke won 5-2 at the Böllenfalltor in 2021/22, while Darmstadt triumphed 4-2 in Gelsenkirchen that same season. Curiously, in all three matches it is the home team who took an early lead but ended up losing.
How it went down earlier in the season
The match-winner was Isac Lidberg, who scored a perfect hat-trick between the 56th and 75th minute, turning a 3-1 deficit into a 4-3 lead. Following this match, Schalke parted ways with manager Karel Geraerts.
Will Schalke be the turning point again?
At the beginning of the campaign, Darmstadt went winless in their first five matches, just as they have in 2025. They were then 3-0 down in Gelsenkirchen, but the turned the match around and won 5-3 to celebrate their first victory of the season and a historic comeback. It was the first, and still only, time in professional football that Darmstadt have won after being three goals down!
