Full time! Frankfurt 1-2 Stuttgart

Stuttgart consolidate third place, thanks to Deniz Undav's double. It's a deserved win in the end against a Frankfurt side that just didn't threaten anywhere near enough in the final third. The Eagles stay seventh.

Nkgankam slides in at the back post, but is a touch too late to the party as the cross whistles behind for a goal-kick.

Fresh legs

New ideas in the Frankfurt attack as Paxten Aaronson and Jessic Ngankam repace Buta and Marmoush. Hoeneß goes for the pace of Silas, with double goalscorer Undav hooked. VfB will surely get chances to counter as Eintracht step up their search for a leveller...

Stuttgart retake the lead on the stroke of half-time. Mittelstädt's cross is a peach for Undav to head in his second of the game. There's a quick VAR check, but the Stuttgart striker was clearly onside.

Marmoush, Marmoush - Marmoush is on fire

Frankfurt's Omar Marmoush has scored five of his six Bundesliga goals this season in his last four games. He's also struck three times in the Europa Conference League and once in the DFB Cup. In 21 appearances for Stuttgart in 2021/22, the Egypt international scored just three goals.

Watch: Are Stuttgart title contenders?

It's crazy to think Stuttgart only survived via the relegation play-offs last term. They've won eight of 11 games this league season and, in Guirassy, have one of the hottest strikers in European football right now.

Watch: Stuttgart in game mode

VfB will stay third whatever happens in Frankfurt, but Dortmund are up to fourth and level on 24 points with VfB after their 4-2 win over Gladbach earlier today. The gap to Bayern in second is eight points.

More on those teams

Éric Junior Dina Ebimbe replaces Hrvoje Smolčić in the only change to the Frankfurt side that started the 2-2 draw with Bremen prior to the international break. Stuttgart are unchanged from their win over Dortmund, meanwhile, with Deniz Undav leading the line and Serhou Guirassy among the substitutes once more.

Toppmöller's view on Frankfurt

"Stuttgart are one of the teams of the season, they're in top form. They've got fantastic attacking players, but also a defensive stability we haven't seen from them in a while. We need to go to our absolute limit, if we're to beat them."
camera-photo

Hoeneß's view on Frankfurt

"We're expecting a tough game against a team that's only lost once this season in the Bundesliga, and is going well in the Conference League and DFB Cup. There aren't many more difficult assignments than Frankfurt away. They're tactically very flexible on and off the ball, one of the fastest teams in the Bundesliga and can cause problems for teams. We need to be flexible in our play, in order to keep them in check."

Stuttgart transformed

Stuttgart have already won more times after 11 matches in 2023/24 than they did during the entire previous campaign, when they needed a play-off against Hamburg to secure their top-flight status. Their eight victories from 11 games has also equalled the club-record start made by Felix Magath's class of 2003/04.
