The hosts turned up when it mattered tonight, smashing four past third-placed Leipzig who had won five in a row coming into this fixture in order to jump into fourth. The dominance they displayed in the first 45 was maintained in the second, with Kasper Hjulmand's side creating chances almost at will. Leipzig did start the second half brightly but struggled to create clear chances and were constantly susceptible on the break, which ultimately cost them in the end.

Leverkusen have extended Edmond Tapsoba’s contract, tying the Burkina Faso centre-back to the club until 2031. Tapsoba was a cornerstone of the Leverkusen team that won the Bundesliga under Xabi Alonso in 2024, and has now made 267 appearances for the club since joining from Portuguese side Vitória de Guimarães in 2020.
