Ole Book on Schlotterbeck's contract extension

“With Nico, we have one of the best center-backs in the world in our ranks. His play with and without the ball, his distribution, his tackling, combined with his presence and aggression on the pitch – all of this makes him incredibly valuable to us. We are certain that together with Nico we can achieve great things at Borussia Dortmund.”

'Schlotty' commits future to Dortmund

On Friday, Borussia Dortmund announced that defender Nico Schlotterbeck has signed a contract extension at the club, keeping him at BVB until 2031. The 26-year-old, whose previous deal at Dortmund was due to expire at the end of the 2026/27 season, expressed his delight at the news, saying: “I’m absolutely delighted to have extended my contract with BVB [...] The club officials presented me with a good plan, and I know what I have at this club. My goal is to win titles together with Borussia Dortmund.”

Kasper Hjulmand on facing Dortmund

"Dortmund no longer have any double-fixture weeks, either nationally or in Europe. They come out firing every week and are currently in very good form. They have an incredible sharpness, which we also need. They often don't have many more chances than their opponents, but they still win the games."
camera-photo

Niko Kovač on facing Leverkusen

"We're two evenly matched teams who have a lot of quality. We want to get the three points in front of our fans, but we know Leverkusen are giving their all in pursuit of a Champions League place. There won't be much in it, so we need to make sure we tip the scales in our favour."

Unlocking defences

Serhou Guirassy may not have hit the heights of seasons gone by in 2025/26, but the Guinean marksman has scored some very important goals for Dortmund this term. Of his 13 Bundesliga strikes so far, six (around 46 percent) have been the game's opening goal.

Watch: A very different Dortmund

With 13 clean sheets already this Bundesliga season, Dortmund's 'heavy metal' approach made famous by Jürgen Klopp has been replaced by a more pragmatic style under Niko Kovač.
camera-photo

Better than Bayern

BVB have taken a league-high 28 points from a possible 33 during the second half of the season (Matchday 18 onwards). Runaway leaders Bayern have claimed 26 points in that time.

First time for everything

Just three days separated Leverkusen's home loss in the league to the Black-Yellows and their cup victory at Signal Iduna Park earlier this season. They also won 3-2 at Dortmund in last term's Bundesliga, but have never recorded three straight competitive victories on BVB soil.
camera-photo

Tough nut to crack

Dortmund have lost just twice in the league this season - both to Bayern Munich - ahead of Matchday 29. It's their fewest number of defeats at this stage of a campaign for 60 years!
