Watch: Undav rues Stuttgart's failure to 'kill the game'

camera-photo

Full-time: Stuttgart 1-1 Union Berlin

These two sides couldn't be separated this afternoon, in what was an entertaining contest. Stuttgart started the second half strongly and soon got their reward for their attacking efforts through Führich's brilliant opener. Union were never really out of it, however, and showed time and again they could penetrate the Stuttgart backline. The hosts could find neither a second goal nor the answer to keeping the capital club quiet, and conceded a late equaliser from Jeong despite having looked the better side for much of the half.

Huge chance!

After a one-two with Undav, Stiller is through on goal and one-on-one with Rønnow, but instead of putting his finish either side of the 'keeper, he puts it over the bar.

Sebastian Hoeneß on facing Union

“Union Berlin combine individual quality and experience; the team defend physically and compactly and can transition quickly. Steffen Baumgart is a very experienced coach who is having a stable and successful season with his team; it’s not easy to beat them.”

Watch: Stuttgart starting 2026 with a bang

VfB Stuttgart have made a flying start to 2026, thanks in no small part to their complement of FIFA World Cup hopefuls.

Head-to-head

Union are unbeaten in two against Stuttgart, although the Swabians won the four meetings preceding that. Recent match-ups have seen plenty of goals, with 16 coming in the past three - eight of those in one half as the two sides drew 4-4 last term. Matches against Stuttgart bring with them happy memories for the side from the capital; the Iron Ones beat the 2007 Bundesliga champions in the 2019 relegation play-off to secure their first-ever promotion to the top flight.
