Penalty to St. Pauli!

Lifeline for Pauli. Raum trips Kaars inside the area and the referee points to the spot! The Leipzig man appeared to lose his footing before attempting to win the ball off the Dutchman, but the decision stands.

Big chance for Pauli!

The unmarked Irvine fails to make proper contact with Kaars' cutback, but St. Pauli win back possession and the Dutchman gets his head on a hanging cross from the left. He manages to direct his header on target but it's straight at Gulácsi.
88'

Last roll of the dice

Ceesay is on for Pauli, but time is running out for the home side.
87'

Superb save!

Gomis nearly makes an instant impact, cutting onto his right foot from the left and curling an effort towards goal. Vasilj does brilliantly to get his fingertips to the shot, tipping it over the crossbar.

Two more changes

Leipzig in front!

Raum's corner is cleared as far as Diomande on the edge of the box. The Ivorian takes a touch before rifling a powerful drive past Vasilj and into the corner. It may have taken a slight deflection off Smith, but Leipzig won't care one bit!

Close!

Diomande plays the ball back to Baku, whose outswinging cross from the right is headed narrowly wide of the far post by Rômulo. Not much in that at all.

Visitors standing firm

Saliakas' long through is flicked on by Sands towards Fujita, but Leipzig again manage to clear their lines.
54'

Good opportunity for Pauli

Saliakas pinches the ball off Raum on the edge of the St. Pauli area and bursts forward on the counter-attack. He finds Sinani, whose attempted pass into Jones loops into Gulácsi's arms.

Positive play

Jones runs at Orbán and wins another corner off the Leipzig defender, but St. Pauli fail to make the most of the set play.

Suspended

Baumgartner catches Sands and is shown the game's first yellow card. It's his fifth of the campaign, ruling him out of Leipzig's upcoming match against Mainz.
47'

No way through

Chadaille Bitshiabu's last-ditch challenge prevents Jones from getting a shot away inside the box, with Orbán blocking Fujita's subsequent attempt at a cross. The resulting St. Pauli corner comes to nothing.

Jones can't get his shot away

Yet again, the St. Pauli striker is through on goal, but he delays his shot and is eventually crowded out by the Leipzig defence. The linesman's flag goes up again - Jones must have been marginally offside.
37'

Over from Raum

Diomande is some player. The Ivorian turns his marker before teeing up Raum, who blazes a left-footed shot over the crossbar from around 20 metres out.

Jones again!

The chances keep on coming! Jones races clear again and beats Gulácsi this time, but his powerful shot ripples the side-netting. Some of the home fans thought he had scored, but it wouldn't have counted - the linesman's flag was up!
20'

So close!

Seiwald's shot from the edge of the box takes a wicked deflection off Andō, wrong-footing goalkeeper Vasilj. The St. Pauli custodian does magnificently to dash across his line and claw the ball out of harm's way.
19'

Brilliant defending

Jones thinks he only has Gulácsi to beat after running on to Fujita's through ball, but Orbán does brilliantly to nick the ball off the St. Pauli striker before he can get his shot away.
17'

Quick feet

Anything Diomande can do, Fujita can too! The St. Pauli man sidesteps Bitshiabu inside the area but runs out of room near the byline, flicking the ball into Gulácsi's arms from the tightest of angles.
camera-photo

Wonderful wing play

Diomande effortlessly glides past Pyrka on the right before cutting the ball back for Schlager, whose low shot is blocked. Neither Rômulo nor Diomande can get on the end of the rebound.
13'

No takers

Leipzig win the game's first corner but Raum's delivery evades everyone inside the St. Pauli area and bounces behind for a goal-kick.
11'

High-tempo start

Leipzig are carrying the greater threat, but St. Pauli are looking dangerous on the counter-attack. Sinani and Saliakas try to link up down the right, but the visitors quickly recover their shape and clear the danger.

Off the post!

It's that man Schlager again! The midfielder lets fly on the edge of the box, firing a low, left-footed shot against the outside of the post. Let-off for St. Pauli!
6'

End to end

Schlager and Baumgartner link up again on the edge of the box, but the latter's pass is intercepted and St. Pauli surge forward. Fujita gets into a good position down the left, but his cross is straight at Gulácsi.
4'

Almost a perfect pass

Schlager can't quite get on the end of Baumgartner's attempted ball over the top of the St. Pauli defence. The visitors have had the lion's share of possession so far.

Ole Werner on facing Pauli

“After a very good start to the season and a period where they earned few points, they have recently regained much more defensive stability. They have returned to that which distinguished them last year in defence: compactness.”
camera-photo

Alexander Blessin on facing Leipzig

"We're up against a good side with a couple of players back from injury. Leipzig had a few problems before the winter break, but they've started well since. They have a lot of quick players and are good in transition, so we'll have our work cut out. We performed well in the three games against them last season and got some points. In terms of our intensity, we’ll have to step up a gear."
camera-photo

Pauli still waiting

So far in the Bundesliga, Pauli are yet to score a goal against Leipzig. They were beaten 2-0 earlier this season and also lost by the same scoreline last term after the first top-flight encounter between the two ended in a goalless draw.

A chance to underline the contrast

Last season, Leipzig failed to qualify for European football for the first time since their promotion in 2016. Victory at Pauli would see them have six points more than they did at the same point of last season, while it would also equal the five away victories they managed in the whole of 2024/25.

Good, and bad, consistency

Pauli have been in the bottom three of the Bundesliga since Matchday 10. Leipzig, meanwhile, have spent the last 15 matchdays in the top six.
camera-photo

Early Leipzig team news

There are no extra issues for Leipzig to worry about following their Matchday 19 win over Heidenheim. That does mean that Johan Bakayoko, Castello Lukeba and Assan Ouédraogo are still unavailable, although Ole Werner now has Benjamin Henrichs back after a considerable amount of time on the sidelines.
camera-photo

Early St. Pauli team news

Adam Dźwigała picked up his fifth yellow card of the season against Hamburg on Friday and is therefore unavailable here. After an injury lay-off, club captain Jackson Irvine came on versus HSV and could therefore return to the starting line-up.
camera-photo

In the mix

Leipzig could jump back into the top four with a win here, as they sit just one point behind Stuttgart. They have one of the best backlines in the division with 24 goals conceded at this point, which compliments their wide variety of attacking options.

Slipping away

Mainz have jumped into the relegation play-off place ahead of Pauli, meaning Alexander Blessin's side need to start picking up wins soon. They've scored the fewest number of goals so far, however, hitting the back of the net just 16 times.

Leipzig bounced back from their 5-1 defeat against Bayern at the first time of asking with a dominant victory against Heidenheim. Three goals, three points and a clean sheet marked a perfect away day for Werner and his team.

Watch: Pauli 0-0 Hamburg - highlights

The defences came out on top when Pauli met local rivals HSV at the Millerntor on Matchday 19.
camera-photo

Head-to-head

Leipzig have prevailed in each of the last two meetings between these two sides. However, they have won only one of the other five match-ups, failing to score in four of them. Prior to last season, Pauli and Leipzig had not faced off since 2016 in Bundesliga 2.
camera-photo

Leipzig look to return to form

After suffering their third defeat in four league games at home to Bayern Munich, Ole Werner's men returned to winning ways at struggling Heidenheim on Matchday 19. It was their first victory in four away matches, lifting them back above VfB Stuttgart and into the top four overnight on Saturday. They're now back a point behind Stuttgart.
camera-photo

Cause for optimism

Pauli enjoyed a strong second half of the season in 2024/25, picking up 18 points after the winter break, just three fewer than Leipzig.
2:03
camera-professional-play-symbol

Watch: Leipzig 2-0 Pauli - previous meeting

Pauli didn't have much luck against Leipzig last season, failing to score against them in both of their Bundesliga meetings. They did take a point from Die Roten Bullen in a goalless draw at home, but fell to a 2-0 defeat at the Red Bull Arena.
