St. Pauli have lost nine of their last ten competitive meetings with Bayern Munich. Their only victory in that time was a 2-1 home win in the Bundesliga back in February 2002, when goals from Thomas Meggle and Nico Patschinski were enough to secure all three points. Willy Sagnol was on target for Bayern that day.

Bayern's 18-match unbeaten start to the season ended at Arsenal in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday. The Bundesliga leaders lost 3-1 in North London, relinquishing top spot in the league-phase standings as a result.

Home sweet home

St. Pauli are yet to earn a point away from Hamburg this term; their seven points in the league came on the first three matchdays at home against Dortmund (3-3) and Augsburg (2-1), and away to local rivals HSV (2-0).
