Full-time: Hannover 1-3 Elversberg

Elversberg turn the match around after a weak first half and can now hope for promotion. The match winner is, of course, Asllani with three goals. Hannover couldn't make any impact in the second half.

Hat-trick! Game sealed!

It's Asllani again who decides the match. Neubauer threads the ball through to him on the left-hand side. He bursts into the penalty area and rounds both Zieler and the rest of the 96 defence. The goal also stands after a VAR check for offside.

Can Hannover come back?

After Ngankam's shock injury, it has become quiet in the stadium. The hosts are not managing to create much in terms of play.

Ngankam requires treatment

That looked very nasty: The Hannover player miscontrolled the ball and Elversberg's Stock rushed in and attempted a risky clearance in midfield. In doing so, he unfortunately caught the attacking player, who had to leave the pitch on a stretcher.

Elversberg running down the clock

Whether it's a corner-kick or a free-kick in their own half, the visitors are taking their time with the execution. It all looks very composed...

Lack of control from Hannover

The home side currently have far too little grip on the game. They are playing significantly fewer passes than Elversberg and the few they do play are sloppy. The fans cannot be pleased with this.

Can Elversberg still let this slip away?

While the chances of an away win were still relatively slim at the beginning of the second half, the visitors now seem to be on the path to victory. No wonder, given their superiority in play.

Asslani at the double!

They've turned the game on it's head with a beautiful goal from Asllani! Le Joncour drives the ball forward on the left-hand side, plays it to Zimmerschied. He combines with Damar centrally at the edge of the penalty area and finds his striking partner. Asllani turns his man and smashes it powerfully into the left corner.

Hardly any relief

The home side are just chasing the ball now. And when they do have it, it's often quickly gone again. There are the first whistles from the stands. As things stand, the hosts would do well to hold onto the draw.
73'

That was nearly it!

The substituted Ezeh doesn't seem to be fully focused yet. Şahin plays a lovely diagonal ball from the left wing behind the Hannover defensive line. The substitute misjudges it and so Baum gets to the ball. However, the Elversberg man doesn't connect properly and Zieler claims it.
72'

Breitenreiter wants more momentum

The coach of the 96ers tries again with two substitutions. In particular, the swap of Knight for Matondo is a clear signal: They want to exert more pressure going forward and secure the three points!

A 1-1 draw is actually maybe less than they deserve. Based on the goal-scoring opportunities, the visitors would have more than deserved the lead. Either they're too elaborate in front of goal or they're thwarted by Hannover's Zieler.

The visitors completely transformed

The numbers tell a clear story: in the first half, the visitors needed almost four seconds longer to recover a lost ball. In the second half, they appear significantly more alert and are pressing frantically. Coach Horst Steffen must have found the right words in the dressing room.

That could have been a goal...

...the visitors will be thinking. Elversberg counterattack quickly, the ball reaching Zimmerschied via Asllani. The winger suddenly finds himself free in front of the Hannover goal, but his finish goes just over the bar.
60'

Tresoldi with the header!

That was close! Rochelt is played through by Oudenne on the left wing. His cross finds Tresoldi but the finish flies just over the crossbar. The striker leaned back a bit too much.
56'

The equaliser for Elversberg!

The visitors reward themselves for a strong second half! Baum powers through on the right side, almost loses the ball twice, but keeps on going. At the edge of the penalty area, he delicately lays the ball into Asllani's path. The striker shows equal finesse and chips the ball over the onrushing Zieler and into the net to make it 1-1.
55'

One player stands firm against the equaliser

Hannover's Leopold is one of the few on the hosts' side who actually brings calm to the game. He has successfully beaten the Elversberg press 73 per cent of the time so far.

Under the kosh

Again the visitors have a good opportunity to equalise! They get into the penalty area from the right, Zieler saves from close range and the follow-up shot trickles out of the scramble past the far post. The opening phase of the second half is clearly going Elversberg's way.
49'

Double chance for Elversberg

A brave restart from Steffen's team. Damar delivers a corner from the left into the penalty area. Şahin lets the ball glance off his head at the near post and Zieler makes a brilliant save! Shortly after, when Hannover thought they were safe, Elversberg whips in a cross from the right towards the goal. The ball rolls through the six-yard box and Damar narrowly misses at the far post.

Half-time: Hannover 1-0 Elversberg

The first 45 minutes were very impressive! High second division quality that Hannover and Elversberg are delivering here. Both teams had good opportunities, though the 96ers were more efficient and were able to execute their counter-attacks more effectively.

Hardly a way past Kunze

The fact that the visitors have hardly been able to develop their game lately is also due to Kunze. The midfielder has got a foot in time and again and is restricting the influence of Elversberg's playmaker Damar.
40'

Swarming the midfield

The phase of high pressing is over. Hannover are now trying to close down the midfield. So far with success: Elversberg have hardly created a serious goal-scoring opportunity from open play in the last few minutes. They can barely get past the halfway line.

It's surprising that only one goal has been scored so far, considering the good chances both teams have had. The 96ers especially can be frustrated after Gindorf's missed opportunity.

First Kristof, then Zieler!

Again, it's just a few touches for Hannover to get into Elversberg's penalty area. Tresoldi serves Gindorf, who fails to beat the visitors' keeper from close range. Almost immediately afterwards, Hannover's Zieler is likewise called into action. The ball comes from the right side to Asllani in the space behind, who fails to beat the 96 goalkeeper even on the follow-up.
30'

Good opportunity for Hannover

The home side are doing well now, playing a bit more patiently. After winning the ball deep inside their half, they switch play quickly with few touches. It looks promising, but Gindorf plays a misplaced pass and so the counter-attack opportunity fizzles out.

More future suspensions

Petkov arrives late in the challenge with Neumann, stepping on the defender's foot. For this, he receives his fifth yellow card in recent weeks and will also be missing next weekend.
26'

Time for a breather?

Elversberg are now striving for more control of the game. They are keeping the ball more within their own ranks, and the attacks are being played with a bit less pace than in the opening phase. Hannover, for their part, are not pressing as aggressively anymore.
23'

Hannover persevering

Time and again, Tresoldi and Gindorf drift out to the wings and create space for themselves. This time, Tresoldi penetrates the penalty area from the left, but his cross to the far post is just a touch too far for his teammate.
20'

Knight comes flying in!

Elversberg get into another good shooting position. From the right side, the ball reaches Damar, who shoots from about 20 yards out, but Hannover's defender throws himself into the shot. That could have been dangerous...
17'

Good free-kick opportunity

Zimmerschied chases a long ball down the left flank. His effort is rewarded: he is brought down by Knight just in front of the byline. Damar drives the ball directly towards goal from a tight angle. But Zieler doesn't get caught out, punching the ball away from the danger area.
15'

How will Elversberg respond?

The visitors are doing well in the match so far, showing bite in the tackles. Especially in midfield, they have rarely been second best against the hosts. But going forward, they're still lacking incisiveness.

Early yellow for Şahin

It's another counter-attack from the home side. In midfield, the Elversberg man brings down Hannover's Tresoldi in a clear tactical foul. That's Şahin's fifth yellow card this season.
7'

Hanover counter-attack yields nothing

The visitors apply pressure early on, pressing high on the goalkeeper Zieler. However, Elversberg are open at the back. Hannover try again with a long ball, this time down the right flank. Şahin just manages to clear the subsequent cross.
4'

Double chance for 96-ers

It's a lively start in Lower Saxony! The hosts try twice down the right flank. Gindorf powers his way to the byline and tries to cut the ball back, but can only finds an Elversberg defender. A few seconds later, it's much the same as Hannover look to play it in behind, but still can't manage to register a shot on goal.

Elversberg get the first chance!

On the left flank, the visitors advance into the penalty area through Neubauer and Petkov. Hannover just manage to clear the cross from the byline.

Hannover team news

Andre Breitenreiter gives Sei Muroya the nod over Jannik Dehm on the right this time. Additionally, Kolja Oudenne and Lars Gindorf move into the starting line-up in place of Brooklyn Ezeh and Jessic Ngankam. Gindorf, who missed a huge chance to equalise late on in Karlsruhe, gets to start for the first time since Matchday 25.

Elversberg team news

After the thrashing of Regensburg last time out, Horst Steffen makes only one change to his Elversberg outfit: Muhammed Damar returns from suspension and replaces Carlo Sickinger. Semih Şahin, who recently played as a no. 10 in Damar's absence, moves back to his usual position as a defensive midfielder.

Elversberg starting XI

Hannover starting XI

Steffen on facing Hannover

"I'm very excited about this match and I'm also happy to be in Hannover. I have fond memories of this place. Hannover can be a truly powerful force when they click with their quality. There've been too many matches this season which they could've won but haven't managed to, otherwise they would be much higher in the table."

Breitenreiter on facing Elversberg

"Elversberg is a team with strong technical ability. They are hard runners and good in attack. We need to be more clinical with our chances - that's what is holding our game back. We can see in training that we can do it, but it needs to be implemented in the match."

Tresoldi on fire

The 2-2 draw in Hannover on Matchday 1 last season also marked Elversberg's debut in the Bundesliga 2. The latter led 2-0, before substitute Nicolo Tresoldi won the penalty which made it 2-1 and then scored his first second-tier goal to make it 2-2. In the return fixture, Tresoldi bagged a brace in the 2-2 draw, and also scored in this season's first clash between these sides. He has been involved in all five of Hannover second-tier goals against Elversberg.

Efficient Elversberg

Elversberg have not lost any of their four competitive matches against Hannover to date. In their first clash of the season, they secured a 3-1 home victory against the then-league leaders. It was the only time Hannover have conceded more than two goals in a match this term.
