Tzimas lacks precision

A sign of life from Nuremberg again, with Tzimas dribbling past Halstenberg, but then being challenged by Neumann. He looks for the overlapping Janisch on the right but only finds Wdowik, who steps out well and intercepts the pass.
25'

Misunderstanding in attack

Rochelt dribbles on the left and plays a sharp ball into the middle to Nielsen, who wants to lay it off but then places it exactly between the incoming Leopold and the deep-lying Ngankam. No teammate can reach it and the ever-alert Zieler clears for a counter-attack.

Hannover mean business

xGoals
The xGoals value of a club is calculated from the sum of all goal probabilities (goals and shots on goal) of that team. During a match, it’s easy to see whether the club is performing better than expected (goals> xGoals) - or maybe even higher (xGoals> goals).
The host's period of pressure was short-lived. For the past few minutes, Hannover have been back in control and are creating good attacking moves one after another.

The net rattles!

A steep pass from the right touchline finds Rochelt in the penalty area, who, with his back to the goal, lets the ball drop outside, then runs around Karafiát and hammers the ball into the side netting.
21'

Knight with a golden opportunity!

Rochelt plays a one-two with Wdowik on the left to get in behind, but his cross is blocked by the backtracking Justvan who has to concede a corner. Leopold delivers a high ball into the box - and finds Knight, who heads it towards goal - but Reichart makes an excellent save on the goal line! Yilmaz then clears the ball out of the danger zone with a sliding tackle.
20'

Neumann!

The defender gets involved well on the left in an attack, cuts inside and shoots from the edge of the box. The trajectory looks good, but it goes well over the top left corner.
18'

Wdowik has a go

Now a counter-attack from Hannover. Nielsen gets in deep on the right, runs to the penalty area and looks for his teammates in the centre, but only finds the trailing Wdowik 20 metres from goal. He lets fly with his strong left foot, but misses by some margin.

Antiste!

Nuremberg produce the best chance so far: Knoche plays a through ball to Justvan, who switches play out to Yilmaz on the left. The full-back delivers a high cross to the six-yard box, where Antiste makes a run, wins the aerial duel - but under pressure from the defender, heads well over Hannover's goal.
13'

Tzimas can't reach it

A quick through ball from Drexler looks for striker Tzimas, who gets away from Halstenberg - but can't get to the ball in front of the penalty area as goalkeeper Zieler comes out well to clear the ball.
12'

Free kick for Hannover 96

Wdowik delivers a sharp free kick into the penalty spot, which falls behind the crowd onto the foot of Hannover defender Josh Knight, who tries to control the ball - but pushes it directly into the arms of Reichert.
10'

Counter-attack attempt

FCN is primarily trying to establish a stable defence here and score through quick counter-attacks - Antiste and Tzimas secure the ball together, the Greek then drives the ball forward on the right-hand side, but he misses the opportunity to release Castrop on the left. Instead, Hannover clears the situation before it becomes dangerous.
9'

Rochelt looks for Ngankam

The playmaker tries to send his striker into the penalty area, but the through ball is intercepted by Karafiát.
7'

Through ball to Leopold

The central midfielder is sent deep by Hannover, but loses the foot race against Nürnberg's Drexler.
7'

Unusual arrangement

Under Leitl and also in the first two matches under Breitenreiter, Neumann was deployed on the right side of the back three - today he's playing on the other side. In Tomiak's absence, Halstenberg is in the centre, were he played under Leitl, with Knight on the right.
4'

Quick counter-attack

FCN immediately launche a counter-attack, surging forward with Tzimas, but he has too little support and is held up. Hannover get back in position and the counter-attack fizzles out.
3'

First attack

Wdowik sends Rochelt deep down the left, who crosses to the near post where Ngankam manages to hold off his marker with his back to goal, but his touch lets him down. The hosts easily clear.

96 to kick off

Ron-Robert Zieler won the coin toss and opted for kick-off. We're about to begin.

96 return to a back three

André Breitenreiter starts with five natural defenders for the first time in four matchdays. Sei Muroya replaces the suspended Jannik Dehm on the right, Josh Knight comes into the centre for Boris Tomiak, and Bartlomiej Wdowik plays on the left. As a result, number 10 Lars Gindorf moves to the bench. Additionally, Håvard Nielsen starts in the two-man attack instead of Nicolò Tresoldi.

Klose on the attack

Following the goalless draw last week at Hertha Berlin, Nuremberg start with striker Janis Antiste instead of defensive midfielder Rafael Lubach. This makes the entire team's setup slightly more attack-minded.

Hannover starting XI

Zieler - Knight, Neumann, Halstenberg - Muroya, Kunze, Leopold, Wdowik - Rochelt, Nielsen - Ngankam

Nuremberg starting XI

Reichert - Drexler, Knoche, Karafiát - Janisch, Castrop, Jander, Justvan, Yilmaz - Tzimas, Antiste

Miroslav Klose's view on Hannover

"Hannover have already played a few matches under Breitenreiter and we were able to analyse a few things. They will be brave and we are focusing on ourselves. We have a streak going and we want to continue it."

André Breitenreiter's view on Nuremberg

"We want to play like we did in the first matches. We want to be active. Whenever we are active, we control the opponent and are dominant. And then we create many scoring opportunities, which we want to convert."

Wörl extends and set to return

Marius Wörl, who is currently on loan at Arminia Bielefeld, will return to Hannover in the summer, having also signed a contract extension until 2027. He scored on Wednesday against Werder Bremen as Bielefeld qualified for the DFB Cup semi-finals, meaning that the 20-year-old will be able to gain further experience not only in the 3. Historic rivalry

Nuremberg and Hannover have both been German champions (Nine times for Nuremberg, twice for Hannover) and DFB Cup winners, each having also played over 1,000 Bundesliga matches. In 2019, the teams were relegated from the Bundesliga together and have not returned since.

Better away from home

The Club's last three victories against Hannover all came away from home. Their last home win against against them dates back to September 2018, when both teams were still playing in the Bundesliga. An own goal by Waldemar Anton put Nuremberg on the road to a 2-0 victory against the side then coached by André Breitenreiter.
