Led by captain, record goalscorer and record appearance-maker Edin Džeko, Bosnia can call upon several players plying their trade in Germany. Kerim Alajbegović, who returned to Bayer Leverkusen during this summer transfer window, scored a crucial goal in Bosnia's win over Qatar last time out, while Džeko (Schalke), Ermedin Demirović (Suttgart), Nikola Katić (Schalke) and Nikola Vasilj (St. Pauli) also started the game.

Bundesliga trio hope to help hosts through

Three Bundesliga players have contributed to the USA's strong start at this tournament. Borussia Mönchengladbach's Giovanni Reyna scored in the opener against Paraguay, while club teammate Joe Scally featured in the games versus Australia and Türkiye. Bayer Leverkusen's Malik Tillman, meanwhile, started the first two matches before a short cameo in the Türkiye defeat.

The two nations have faced each other three times to date, but this round-of-32 clash is the first competitive encounter between the countries. The Stars and Stripes have won two of their three friendlies against Bosnia, including a 4-3 victory in 2013 in which Edin Džeko scored twice for the European outfit.

Sergej Barbarez’s team held co-hosts Canada to a 1-1 draw in their Group B opener but were beaten 4-1 by Switzerland six days later, leaving them needing to overcome Qatar to keep alive their hopes of progression. A 3-1 victory in Seattle lifted them onto four points - enough to reach the round of 32 as one of the best third-placed sides.

After beating Paraguay 4-1 in their tournament opener, Mauricio Pochettino’s team booked their place in the round of 32 with a 2-0 victory over Australia in their second group game. Their winning start was ended by a 3-2 defeat to Türkiye in Los Angeles, but it was not enough to deny the co-hosts top spot in Group D.
