Bundesliga pair help Morocco to point

Stuttgart midfielder Bilal El Khannouss started and impressed as Morocco took the lead via an Ismael Saibari chip, before a delightful strike from Vinícius Júnior levelled for five-time winners Brazil. Frankfurt attacker Ayoube Amaimouni-Echghouyab replaced El Khannouss for the final ten minutes of the keenly contested Group C opener.

How they got here: Brazil

They may be traditional powerhouses on the global stage, but A Seleção struggled in South American qualifying, finishing fifth in the overall standings with eight wins, four draws and six defeats. They score a relatively low number of goals - just 24 from 18 games - and conceded 17. They have improved under Ancelotti though, winning seven, drawing two and losing three since the Italian took charge.

How they got here: Morocco

Morocco breezed through CAF qualifying, topping Group E with a perfect record of eight wins from eight, 22 goals scored and just two conceded. El Khannouss found the net once during qualifying, netting a stoppage-time winner in a 2-1 victory over Niger in March 2025.

VfB Stuttgart's Bilal El Khannouss is in Morocco's squad as the Atlas Lions bid to improve on their fourth-placed finish at the 2022 edition in Qatar. For Brazil, former RB Leizpig and Hertha Berlin forward Matheus Cunha, now of Manchester United, is expected to be an integral part of the South Americans' attack.
