It is the last minute of a hard-fought derby between SV Darmstadt 98 and Eintracht Frankfurt. Sandro Sirigu makes a run towards the right-hand corner of the penalty area, takes aim and the ball sails into the top corner. A late winner, three vital points and, more importantly, 63 percent of the votes to take bundesliga.com’s Goal of the Week award!
"Of course I was trying to score (laughs). No, I saw Jerome Gondorf at the far post and was trying to cross to him. So it was sort of planned…It was amazing to score my first goal in the Bundesliga and in such an important derby as well. It was the perfect game for a goal like that," said the 24-year old defender after Darmstadt’s 1-0 victory over Frankfurt.
Sirigu scored Darmstadt’s first goal of the season and secured their first points. In only his eighth Bundesliga appearance, he netted first ever goal with his second attempt at goal.
