Kompany also said that Serge Gnabry isn't yet back but should hopefully return in the coming week. Lennart Karl could also make his full comeback, but there's still no decision about Jamal Musiala. "We have a daily talk, which we haven't had yet. Then we'll decide. It's a question of choosing the right moment. I can't say if that's tomorrow, the weekend or next week," the Belgian explained.

Kompany confirmed on Tuesday that Jonas Urbig will be in goal for this cup tie and hinted that he will continue in further rounds.

"They had a lot of success last season with a compact defence and being dangerous on counters. It didn't work that well in the first few games, but then they found that compactness again against Bochum. These are never easy games. If we have a good day, things work out often enough."

First meeting since 2004

All three previous meetings between Osnabrück and Bayern have come in the DFB Cup second round. Die Lila-Weißen triumphed 5-4 in the teams' first-ever encounter in 1979, but the Bavarians made amends in 2001 and 2004, winning 2-0 and 3-2 respectively.

Memorable runs

Newly promoted Bundesliga 2 side Osnabrück have never progressed beyond the quarter-finals of the DFB Cup. They have reached the last eight on two occasions - in 1989 and 2010, when a second-half Kevin Kuranyi goal earned Schalke a place in the semi-finals at VfL's expense.

Cup holders

Bayern lifted the DFB Cup for the 21st time a little over three months ago, when a 3-0 victory over VfB Stuttgart completed a domestic double for Vincent Kompany's troops. Harry Kane scored all three Bayern goals in Berlin.
