More on that Wiesbaden team

Wiesbaden boss Scherning has made six alterations to the hosts' starting XI. Brdar is preferred to Stritzel in goal, while Mey, Fechner, Schleimer, Nink and Brandt replace Karweina, Lewald, Ati Allah, Hercher and Suárez.

More on that Leverkusen team

Martínez has named a strong side for his first competitive match as Leverkusen boss. The Spaniard has made two changes to the team that defeated Newcastle United in their final friendly last weekend, with Blaswich and Schick coming into the XI in place of Flekken and Kofane, who are among the substitutes.

Wiesbaden subs

Stritzel, Lewald, Neubert, Ati Allah, Chaikhoun, Suárez, Agrafiotis, Karweina, Stehle

Leverkusen subs

Flekken, Belocian, Medina, Quansah, Hofmann, Palacios, Boniface, Kofane, Tella

Daniel Scherning on coming up against Leverkusen

"I know what is possible in this competition. It is always just one game at a time. We saw that with Arminia Bielefeld two years ago, when they made it all the way to the final with emotion, passion and a bit of luck."

Carles Martínez on facing Wiesbaden

"We've taken the first important steps and established a certain style of play that we have in mind. I feel a very strong connection with the players and the staff. I really like their passion and their dedication. Of course, we are still far from the level that is possible with this squad. But at this point in time, we are very positive."

Tough start

Wiesbaden have started the new season with two defeats to Preußen Münster and Würzburger Kickers, conceding seven goals over those two games and scoring just once.

Wiesbaden's DFB Cup history

The 3. Liga side haven't been past the first round of the cup since the 2020/21 season. They did, however, make Bayern Munich work for their win last season, coming from two goals down to make it 2-2 with 20 minutes left to play. Unfortunately for them, Harry Kane netted Bayern third goal in added time, knocking Wiesbaden out in front of their home crowd.

Leverkusen's DFB Cup history

The Werkself have proven themselves a strong cup side in recent seasons. They went all the way to the final in 2020 before winning the competition in 2023/24, and they've reached the semi-finals twice since.
