Hoffenheim arrived at the Volkswagen Arena with the second-best away record in the Bundesliga this season, having collected 10 of a possible 12 points on their travels in 2025/26.

Wolfsburg, meanwhile, were hoping to claim their first league win at the Volkswagen Arena since a 5-1 success over Borussia Mönchengladbach back in January.

The hosts started brightly and took a deserved lead when Mohamed Amoura ran on to Mattias Svanberg's pass before rounding goalkeeper Oliver Baumann and steering the ball into the unguarded net for his first Bundesliga goal since Matchday 3.

Wolfsburg continued to press, but Burger equalised against the run of play with a superb first-time finish from Vladimir Coufal's low cross - his first goal in Germany's top flight.

Hoffenheim made two half-time changes, with Andrej Kramarić and Ozan Kabak entering the fray, and the substitutions paid off immediately as Grischa Prömel rose highest to nod home Kramarić's pinpoint cross five minutes into the second half.

Wolfsburg's response was swift, with Amoura collecting Saël Kumbedi's clever pass and unleashing a fierce shot past Baumann to make it 2-2, but Burger produced another sublime first-time finish from Prömel's delivery to restore Hoffenheim's lead just six minutes later.

The hosts almost restored parity again when Konstantinos Koulierakis' long-range effort forced a fine save out of Baumann, yet Hoffenheim thought they had sealed the three points when Ihlas Bebou prodded home Kabak's header from point-blank range with five minutes remaining.

Bebou's goal was ruled out for offside following a VAR check, but the visitors held on comfortably to claim a hard-fought victory.
