Key stats

Hountondji gained experience with French trio Caen, Quevilly‑Rouen and Orléans, before making Rodez history with a club record single-season goals haul of 14 in 2023/24, prompting Burnley to kit out the 6'2" forward with a four-year deal.

Ten mainly substitute and goalless appearances in the English Championship checked his progress, but Hountondji rediscovered his mojo to some extent during a loan spell with Belgium's Standard Liège during the second half of 2024/25.

The France-born Benin international registered four goals and two assists in 18 competitive outings, before completing another loan move in pre-season, switching to German cult club St. Pauli on 8 July 2025.

Plays a bit like: Loïs Openda

A powerful, versatile forward who can operate through the middle or out wide, Hountondji has a lot in common with RB Leipzig and Belgium forward Loïs Openda. He's also strong in the air, good with both feet and quick, having been clocked doing 22.1 mph (35.6 km/h) for Liege.

Born on 11 July 2002, Hountondji shares his birthday with Benin's Independence Day (celebrated annually since 1960). He is set to become the fifth Beninese to play in the Bundesliga and second to pull on a Pauli shirt, after Moudachirou Amadou.

What they're saying

"Andréas impresses with well-timed runs in behind, excellent finishing with both feet, a natural presence in the air and assertiveness on the ball. He also has important qualities off the ball. He’s aggressive and quick in transition and sees pressing situations early, which means he does an important job for the whole team." - Pauli head coach Alexander Blessin

"Andréas will bolster our attack. His power, speed and physical attributes are a good fit for us." - Pauli sporting director Andreas Bornemann

"He tires the opposing team and stretches the defences." - Hountondji's coach at Rodez, Didier Santini
