Niko Kovač issues Serhou Guirassy update after striker's injury in Borussia Dortmund's UEFA Champions League win over Real Betis
Borussia Dortmund head coach Niko Kovač has issued an update on striker Serhou Guirassy after the striker suffered an injury during Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League win over Real Betis.
Guirassy appeared to hurt his thigh in the 31st minute of Dortmund’s 2-1 league-phase victory over the Spanish outfit, and was replaced shortly afterwards by Konstantinos Karetsas - scorer of BVB’s winning goal.
Kovač does not believe Guirassy’s injury is a serious one, but the Dortmund head coach is “reluctant to take any risks” with the Guinean frontman ahead of Saturday’s Bundesliga clash with Elversberg.

“He said he could feel his thigh, so we’re going to have to see what the issue is,” Kovač said after the game. “We don’t believe it was anything more than a pulled muscle, but he was unable to continue.”
Guirassy has scored eight goals in 14 appearances for Dortmund in all competitions this season, including four in four Champions League outings and a goal in last weekend’s 2-2 draw at Bayern Munich in Der Klassiker.
Only goal difference separates the two rivals heading into Matchday 9, when second-place Dortmund welcome Elversberg to Signal Iduna Park and leaders Bayern travel to Mainz.
