"RB Leipzig can still beat Bayern Munich" - Yussuf Poulsen

RB Leipzig forward Yussuf Poulsen believes his side can have a major say in the Bundesliga title race when they meet Bayern Munich on the season’s penultimate weekend but knows he and his teammates will have to be at their best to deny the reigning champions a seventh successive championship.

The two meet on Matchday 33 and with just two points separating Bayern and second-place Borussia Dortmund, the match at the Red Bull Arena could potentially decide where the Meisterschale turns up at the end of the season.

It is a mouth-watering showdown for the burgeoning Bundesliga rivalry that will also decide the outcome of this year’s DFB Cup final.

And although Poulsen knows his side will need to perform to their highest ability to dent Bayern’s title hopes, let alone secure a first major trophy for the club, the 24-year-old Norway international believes Leipzig are capable of doing exactly that.

“We have to go to our limit, our very highest limit and then we know it is possible to win,” said Poulsen after Leipzig’s 3-3 draw with Mainz.

That result snapped Leipzig’s winning streak at six games, but Ralf Rangnick’s men have been in stunning form since the end of January and are still 14 unbeaten in the league.

Poulsen is targeting instant improvement on the Mainz result and anticipates a thriller when Bayern travel to Leipzig.

“We have to play better than today,” Poulsen reflected after Mainz. “We play at home again [against Bayern] and we know it's going to be a great game.”

Leipzig face Bayern on Saturday, May 11 (kick-off: 3.30pm CEST/2.30pm BST/9.30am ET) and you can follow that crucial game in bundesliga.com's live match centre.
