Robert Lewandowski voted Player of the Season for 2019/20!
With his fourth Torjägerkanone in five years and more than 50 percent of the vote, the free-scoring Robert Lewandowski is the overwhelming selection for Player of the Season, ahead of Timo Werner, Jadon Sancho, Amine Harit, Erling Haaland, Kai Havertz and Serge Gnabry.
WINNER: Robert Lewandowski (FC Bayern München)
Robert Lewandowski started the new season in perfect fashion, and was deservedly voted Player of the Month for August. Bayern’s star striker continued to perform strongly throughout, and was once again the league‘s leading goalscorer. The 31-year-old was chasing one record after another this season, becoming the first player in Bundesliga history to score in 11 consecutive matches at the start of the campaign. By that stage, he had already been on the scoresheet 16 times. After netting against Fortuna Düsseldorf on Matchday 29, the Pole completed his collection and has now scored against every current club in the top flight.
Positioning, strength, and an instinct for goal make Lewandowski a complete striker. This season he has often proven vital for Bayern. In difficult games that were touch and go, Lewandowski always scored at the right moment to fire the record champions closer to their next title. Whether it's with his right foot, left foot or head; a free-kick or penalty, there is simply no keeping Lewandowski at bay. Lewy built on his August win and ultimately fired Bayern to a record eighth consecutive Bundesliga title with his 31st goal of the season in Matchday 32's 1-0 win over Werder Bremen.
Now the Lewandowski has secured the first ever official Bundesliga Player of the Season - a deserved win ahead of the other monthly winners from this season: Timo Werner, Jadon Sancho, Amine Harit, Erling Haaland, Kai Havertz and Serge Gnabry. As well as fan votes, expert opinion was also taken into account. Borussia Dortmund star Sancho finished second overall, with Bayer Leverkusen's Kai Havertz completing the podium.
