Monaco vs. Freiburg: UEFA Conference League live blog and preview

Freiburg are looking to make it two wins from two to start the league phase of the 2026/27 UEFA Conference League as they make the trip to Monaco on Thursday (kick-off: 9pm CEST).

Freiburg's nine-game unbeaten run across all competitions came to an end after Sunday's 2-1 Bundesliga defeat at Bayer Leverkusen, but Julian Schuster's charges will take confidence from their early season form, which includes last week's 3-2 victory at home to Jablonec as the 2025/26 Europa League runners-up look to continue their impressive start.

Monaco finished seventh in France’s Ligue 1 to earn a place in Conference League qualifying, having competed in the Champions League last season. The Principality club kicked off with a 2-1 win at CSKA Sofia on Matchday 1.

Julian Schuster positive despite defeat

Speaking to DAZN after Freiburg's 2-1 defeat in Leverkusen, Julian Schuster commended his team's performance. "Taking a point would have been perfectly fine," he explained. "We put in a very good performance, especially in the first half, and maintained a lot of control after the interval as well. We lacked the final touch, but it was great how well the team performed."
