Merlin Polzin extends contract with Hamburg
Hamburg boss Merlin Polzin has extended his contract with the club, having guided the Red Shorts to Bundesliga safety in 2025/26.
The club were delighted to secure the long-term futures of Polzin and his coaching team, which will keep them at the Volksparkstadion for the foreseeable future.
Despite HSV's stumbling start to this season, which has seen them lose all three of their opening league games, the club have expressed their faith in Polzin and his staff, who guided Die Rothosen back into the top-flight before keeping them there last season.
"They impress us with their expertise, their meticulousness, their diligence and their daily passion," said sporting director Kathleen Krüger.
A Hamburg native, Polzin guided the northern giants to a 13th-place finish in 2025/26, finishing the season nine points clear of the relegation play-off spot after gaining promotion 12 months earlier.
"Everyone knows how much this city, this club and this stadium mean to me," said Polzin. "I'm all the more pleased to have my entire coaching team and staff by my side."
Hamburg host Cologne on Matchday 4 in a game in which they will look to get their first points of the season and given Polzin and his staff even more reason to celebrate.
