As is now tradition at Bayern, players and officials paid a visit to some of their official fan clubs during the winter break.

It was at one such gathering in the town of Emertsham, approximately 45 miles east of Munich, that Neuer was asked about his future.

“I’m feeling positive about the situation,” the 39-year-old replied. “I want to try and produce good performances over the next few months. I think it will be decided towards the end of March or at the beginning of April.”

For now, Neuer is focusing on returning to action, having missed Bayern's final Bundesliga game of 2025 with a muscle tear in his right thigh.

And he is expecting his comeback to be sooner rather than later. "I’m confident that I’ll be in goal against Wolfsburg in our next home match," he told fans in Emertsham. "I'm feeling good."

The signs are encouraging: Neuer took part in a full team session for the first time in three weeks at Bayern’s second training session of the new year on Sunday morning.
