Lennard Maloney breaks Bundesliga record for distance covered
Mainz and USMNT player Lennard Maloney covered the most distance in a single game as the 05ers held Bayern Munich to a 2-2 draw at the Allianz Arena.
Maloney, who lined up in central midfield alongside Kaishū Sano with Nadiem Amiri injured, ran 14.77km (9.18 miles) as Mainz picked up a valuable point away to the champions – the most distance covered by a player since detailed data collection began in the 2011/12 season.
Longtime Hertha Berlin and Czechia star Vladimír Darida was the previous holder of the record, and still boasts the next three best measures, with former Arminia Bielefeld midfielder Manuel Prietl completing the top five.

Mainz were just three minutes away from securing their first win in Munich since December 2016 after Lee Jae-sung and Kacper Potulski had cancelled out Lennart Karl’s opener, but a late Harry Kane penalty spared Bayern’s blushes.
Maloney, who can also play in central defence, joined Mainz from Heidenheim last summer. Berlin-born, he won two caps for the USA in 2023 under Gregg Berhalter, and is an outside bet to make Mauricio Pochettino’s FIFA World Cup 2026 squad.
