Keven Schlotterbeck completes move away from Augsburg to join Southampton
Keven Schlotterbeck has completed a move away from Augsburg to English Championship side Southampton, the club has confirmed.
Schlotterbeck, who spent two years at Augsburg, has put pen to paper on a three-year deal at his new club.
Upon the announcement, Schlotterbeck said. “I had a lot of conversations with [Southampton sporting director] Johannes Spors and he told me about the ambitions they have. I think my football vision is the same, so we get the chance to enact it together. I’m happy to be here now, and to attack this year in the Championship."
In a parting message to Augsburg, Schlotterbeck added: “I’m very grateful to Augsburg for the time we spent together, for the open communication, and for the many special moments I was able to experience here. I wish the club and the fans all the best for the future."
Augsburg sporting director Benjamin Weber added to the defender's message, explaining: "Keven has always been open with us about his desire to take another step abroad in his career.
"Now he has the opportunity to fulfil this wish in England and simultaneously build a long-term sporting future there. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to him for that. We wish him all the best for his new challenge and his future, both professionally and personally."
The 28-year-old, who is the older brother of Borussia Dortmund defender Nico, started out with his sibling at Freiburg, whilst also spending time at Union Berlin on loan. After two temporary stints with Bochum, he made the switch to Augsburg ahead of the 2024/25 term, before going on to rack up 49 appearances across all competitions over the next two seasons.
Incidentally, Schlotterbeck is the 16th player to depart the WWK Arena this summer transfer window.
Meanwhile, Augsburg began their campaign with a 2-0 win over Energie Cottbus in the first round of the DFB Cup last Saturday and will kick off their Bundesliga term at home versus Schalke on Sunday (kick-off: 5.30pm CEST).
