Hertha Berlin inflicted a second straight defeat on Eintracht Frankfurt, with Liverpool loanee Marko Grujic’s first Bundesliga goal decisive.

Hertha Berlin 1-0 Eintracht Frankfurt

Goals: 1-0 Grujic (40’)

Frankfurt went close to taking the lead with 10 minutes played, when Sebastien Haller’s deflected strike came back off the post. Haller continued to pose Hertha problems, flicking a cheeky effort into the side-netting, before Ante Rebic warmed the palms of Rune Jarstein. All signs pointed to a Frankfurt opener, but Hertha hadn’t read the script and took the lead late in the half through Grujic’s thunderous header from a Marvin Plattenhardt corner. It was the Serbian's first goal in the Bundesliga.

Davie Selke thought he’d doubled Hertha’s advantage early in the second half, but his effort was ruled out for offside. The former Germany youth striker rounded Kevin Trapp moments later, only for the Frankfurt stopper to make a brilliant recovery and prevent a certain goal. Half-chances fell the way of Filip Kostic and Nicolai Müller as Frankfurt turned the screw, while Evan N’Dicka sent a header over with the Eagles' last meaningful attempt of the contest.

Match stats

  • Hertha have more wins (29) and have scored more goals (109) against Eintracht than against any other Bundesliga club.
  • Grujic scored his first goal for Hertha since joining on loan from Liverpool in the summer.
  • Ondrej Duda is level with captain Vedad Ibisevic at the top of the Hertha scoring charts, although the Slovakia midfielder hasn't netted since the 1-1 draw with Freiburg on Matchday 8.
  • Frankfurt have now lost consecutive matches for the first time since Matchday 2 and 3.
  • Eintracht defender Carlos Salcedo made his first appearance since Matchday 2, following injury.
  • Ten-goal Luka Jovic is the only other Frankfurt player, other than Theofanis Gekas, to have hit double figures after 14 matches.
