Harry Kane confirms Bayern Munich contract extension talks to begin soon

Harry Kane has confirmed that talks over a new Bayern Munich contract will begin very soon.

Kane only returned to Bayern training at the end of last week following an extended post-World Cup holiday, and he featured briefly in the team’s 4-2 friendly win at Heidenheim on Tuesday.

The 33-year-old’s contract in Munich expires at the end of the current season, but he has revealed that negotiations over a new deal to keep him at Bayern will start in the coming days: “I don’t know exactly when, but talks will begin either this week or next week.”

The England captain, who has finished as Bundesliga top scorer in each of his three seasons in Germany since his move from Tottenham Hotspur in summer 2023, added that “now is the right time,” for the talks to take place, and that “both parties are relaxed about it”.

Harry Kane's best goals

Kane has netted 98 Bundesliga goals in 94 outings for Bayern, as well as 33 in 38 in the UEFA Champions League, and 11 in eight DFB Cup appearances.

During his time in Munich he has won two league titles and the DFB Cup ones, while he has also lifted the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup.

That particular piece of silverware is at stake again this coming Saturday when Bayern take on Borussia Dortmund, although Kane is not sure to what extent he will participate.

“I’ve spoken to the coach about it,” he said. “I’ve only had a week of pre-season training, but I’m used to having a quick turnaround. I’ve played in tournaments almost every year of my career. Whether I play 90 minutes or 45 will depend on how I feel this week.”
