Wolfsburg arrived at the Volksparkstadion under significant pressure. Paul Simonis' side had lost their previous four Bundesliga matches and were winless in six, hovering just a point above the relegation zone. Hamburg, meanwhile, had won their last two home fixtures and were looking to open a six-point gap over their northern rivals.

HSV started brightly, but it was Wolfsburg who struck first with their very first shot of the match. In the 15th minute, Jonas Wind flicked on a long ball to Daghim, who played a one-two with Christian Eriksen to get in-behind. The Danish winger then cut inside Luka Vušković with ease before curling a beautiful finish into the far corner.

Hamburg's rotten luck

The hosts responded with wave after wave of attacks but couldn't find a breakthrough despite creating several good chances.

Their golden opportunity came just before half-time when Konstantinos Koulierakis brought down Albert Sambi Lokonga in the box. However, Grabara dived to his right to deny Ransford-Yeboah Königsdörffer from the spot. Moments later, Sambi Lokonga struck the bar from a rebound as Hamburg's frustration mounted.

HSV's misfortune continued after the restart when Miro Muheim sent a curling free-kick against the post in the 47th minute.

Wolfsburg then nearly doubled their lead when Aaron Zehnter wasted a golden opportunity in the 55th minute, firing wide when through on goal.

The hosts continued to send the ball goalwards, racking up 25 shots in the process, but to no avail as Grabara continued to prove the hero.

In the dying moments, with Hamburg goalkeeper Daniel Heuer Fernandes up for a corner, Joakim Mæhle almost scored from the halfway line, his effort striking the post with the goal unguarded.

Player of the Match: Miro Muheim

Despite ending up on the losing side, Muheim proved a constant threat for Hamburg, bombing up and down the left flank all game.

His deliveries from the flank and from set-pieces provided the hosts with chance after chance, but to no avail as Hamburg's attackers proved wasteful.

Muheim also came the closest to scoring for the hosts, hitting the woodwork from a free-kick delivery and later also testing Grabara with a powerful effort.

Muheim's performance saw him rack up 365 Fantasy points.
