Eintracht Frankfurt's Nathaniel Brown is the new name in Julian Nagelsmann’s Germany squad for October FIFA World Cup qualifiers

Julian Nagelsmann has handed Eintracht Frankfurt’s Nathaniel Brown a maiden senior call-up in Germany’s squad for their October FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Luxembourg and Northern Ireland.

Brown has enjoyed a breakout year on the left of Frankfurt’s defence. The 22-year-old has represented Germany at U21 level and was part of the team that finished runners-up at last summer’s Euros but could also have elected to play for the USA through his father.

Borussia Dortmund’s Nico Schlotterbeck is one of five players to return to the fold. “After the injury to Antonio Rüdiger, it’s hugely important that Nico is back,” said Nagelsmann. “We’ve also got a great young talent in defence with Nene Brown.”

Frankfurt striker Jonathan BurkardtBayern Munich's Aleksandar Pavlović, RB Leipzig’s Ridle Baku and Felix Nmecha of Dortmund are the others back in the 25-man squad.

Germany are currently third in Group A of European qualifying for next summer’s World Cup with a win and loss from two games.

They will meet up in Herzogenaurach on Monday before hosting Luxembourg at Hoffenheim’s PreZero Arena on Friday, 10 October (8.45pm CEST) and then traveling to Belfast to face Northern Ireland on Monday, 13 October (8.45pm CEST).

Their final two qualifiers in November are away in Luxembourg and at home to Slovakia, with only the top team in the group securing an automatic place in Canada, Mexico and the USA.
