'Leaving was never an option' - Ermedin Demirović on VfB Stuttgart future
Ermedin Demirović has ended speculation over his VfB Stuttgart future, telling reporters at the club’s pre-season training camp that leaving the MHP Arena this summer was “never an option”.
Demirović has reportedly been attracting interest from several big-name European clubs on the back of an impressive 2025/26 campaign, in which he scored 15 goals for Stuttgart in all competitions.
The striker, who joined Die Schwaben in 2024, also helped Bosnia and Herzegovina reach the last 32 of the FIFA World Cup 2026 in Canada, Mexico and the USA earlier this summer.
“Leaving was never an option for me,” said the 28-year-old, who has recently linked up with his Stuttgart team-mates at the club’s Grassau training camp after returning from holiday in the Caribbean.
“I heard about the rumours while I was away, but I always said I wanted to stay at VfB. I get along very well with [head coach] Sebastian Hoeneß. Nothing has changed in my mind.”
Demirović was sidelined for nearly two months with a foot injury last season but formed an impressive partnership with Deniz Undav during the second half of the campaign, scoring nine goals in 19 Bundesliga appearances from January onwards.

Those goals helped Stuttgart finish fourth in Germany’s top flight, earning them a place in the UEFA Champions League for the second time in three seasons.
Looking ahead to the 2026/27 campaign, Demirović continued: “I want to score goals and help the team. I’m going to try and build on my performances from the past few years.”
Stuttgart’s first competitive game of the new season is against Hansa Rostock in the first round of the DFB Cup on Friday 21 August. Seven days later, Hoeneß’s side travel to reigning champions Bayern Munich for their Bundesliga opener.
