Eintracht Frankfurt and Freiburg share spoils in entertaining affair

Germany call-ups Younes Ebnoutalib, Jonathan Burkardt and Derry Scherhant all found the target in a lively clash as Eintracht Frankfurt and Freiburg played out a draw.

Freiburg arrived at Deutsche Bank Park having won their first three Bundesliga fixtures of the season and Julian Schuster named the same starting XI for the third consecutive match.

Ebnoutalib and Burkardt show efficiency

Freiburg started the brighter of the two sides and dominated possession early on, with Scherhant and Matthias Ginter both testing Noah Atubolu. Yet it was Frankfurt who struck first: a swift move down the left saw Burkardt feed Ritsu Dōan, who raced through and squared for Ebnoutalib to tap home in the tenth minute.

Freiburg continued to press and drew level in the 34th minute through Scherhant, who cut inside from Jordy Makengo's pass to finish into the bottom corner.

Frankfurt responded immediately, Burkardt bundling in from close range in the 36th minute after Robin Koch's looping header, before Scherhant nearly grabbed a second when his free-kick struck the post right at the interval.

Suzuki restores parity after the break

Freiburg struck again just two minutes into the second half. Scherhant chipped a delightful cross to the far post, where Yuito Suzuki smashed home on the volley to make it 2-2.

The remainder of the half saw both sides create chances without adding to the score, despite Can Uzun and Lucas Höler going close late on as neither team could find a winner.
