Borussia Dortmund's Serhou Guirassy starts fast in bid to dethrone Harry Kane
Serhou Guirassy has wasted no time laying down the gauntlet to Harry Kane. The Borussia Dortmund striker followed up his goal in the opening-day win over Hamburg with another decisive display against Hoffenheim, scoring and providing an assist as his side came from 2-0 down to claim all three points.
Guirassy now has two Bundesliga goals to show for his first two games of the season, while Kane is still waiting for his first. It is an early statement from a striker who knows all about finishing just behind the Bayern Munich superstar.

Guirassy's best Bundesliga haul came with VfB Stuttgart in 2023/24, when he struck 28 times – only for Kane's 36 goals to deny him the Torjägerkanone. He managed 21 goals in his first season at Dortmund and 17 last term, but has yet to finish a Bundesliga campaign as its top scorer. Kane, meanwhile, has claimed the prize in each of his first three seasons in Germany - an unprecedented achievement.
Yet Guirassy has already shown he can mix it with Europe's elite. He finished as joint top scorer in the 2024/25 Champions League, with his 13 goals matching Barcelona's Raphinha. And with 62 goals in 99 appearances for Dortmund, his numbers underline just how prolific he has been since moving to Signal Iduna Park.
The challenge now is to turn that pedigree into the individual honour that has so far eluded him. Kane has had the better of him in the Bundesliga scoring race time and again, but Guirassy's electric start suggests he is ready to make another push.
And the timing could hardly be better: his next appearance, against Villarreal in the Champions League, will be his 100th for Dortmund.
