Despite challenging external conditions, the DFL Deutsche Fußball Liga has once again surpassed the billion-Euro mark in awarding German-language media rights, thereby continuing the high level of revenues of the past few years. Clubs can expect revenues averaging €1.1 billion for the 2021/22 to 2024/25 seasons, corresponding to total revenues of €4.4 billion.

  • Sky secure all live rights on Saturday; DAZN will broadcast on Friday and Sunday
  • ARD retains first broadcast on early Saturday evening; ProSiebenSat.1 acquires live package including season opening, Supercup and promotion/relegation play-offs
  • Seifert: 'The greatest possible stability in uncertain times'

There will continue to be two pay-TV media partners. Sky will maintain live coverage of the Bundesliga on Saturday (including all individual matches in the afternoon, multi-game conference and top match), as well as all Bundesliga 2 games. DAZN will broadcast all Bundesliga matches live on Friday and Sunday. Sport1 will broadcast the Saturday evening match in Bundesliga 2 live on free-to-air TV.

ProSiebenSat.1 also secured an extensive live rights package for free-to-air TV, including the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 season openings, the promotion/relegation play-offs, and the Supercup.

The first showing of Bundesliga highlights on free-to-air TV on early Saturday evening and on Sunday evening was again secured by ARD. ZDF will continue to broadcast the second showing of Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 highlights on free-to-air TV on Saturday evening, as well as the free-to-air TV broadcast of the Bundesliga's top match. Sport1 continues to hold the rights to broadcast highlights of the Friday and Saturday Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 matches from Sunday morning onwards. A new development is that ARD was able to secure the Bundesliga 2 highlights on Friday and Sunday, in addition to early Saturday evening; as things stand, it is planned for some of the package to be broadcast on channel One.

“The result of the tender offers the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 clubs, as well as the fans, the greatest possible stability in uncertain times,” said Christian Seifert, DFL CEO and the DFL Executive Committee spokesperson. “This applies both in terms of largely maintaining the revenue levels and in terms of viewing habits. A big thank you in the coming rights period goes to the media partners, whose investments have shown their confidence in the continued positive development of the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2.”

Axel Springer acquired the pay rights for on-demand Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 highlights immediately after the matches end, as well as the 'Digital out of Home' package — awarded for the first time — for the use of video of the matches on outdoor advertising spaces. ARD, ZDF and Sport1 secured the rights package to show free highlights of matches from both leagues from Monday. ARD secured the audio rights in both the areas of FM and Web/Mobile.

All rights were again awarded in an open, transparent and non-discriminatory tender approved by the Federal Cartel Office. The DFL Executive Committee will decide on revenue distribution in due course.
