Denmark make their point to advance, as Serbia's road ends in Munich
Denmark are into Euro 2024's Round of 16 after a 0-0 draw against Serbia saw Kasper Hjulmand's side advance with a top-two finish in their section, while their opponents in Munich were eliminated as a result.
Denmark 0-0 Serbia
The venue for so many inspired Bayern Munich home performances, the Allianz Arena instead witnessed a tight and tense first half as Denmark and Serbia shadow-boxed their way through proceedings. Dragan Stojković's side may have needed the win to keep their tournament hopes alive, but it was the Danes who enjoyed the brighter moments in the opening 45 minutes. Christian Eriksen had the best of those, the Manchester United midfielder wafting a shot across the goal that had custodian Predrag Rajković scrambling along his line to parry wide. Denmark increased the pace slightly after the restart, when Jannik Vestergaard saw a powerful header fielded by Rajković. Serbia continued to wait, and their patience was rewarded when Aleksandar Mitrović landed the chance that could have changed his team's tournament fortunes. The 29-year-old could only side-foot wide, however. When substitute Dušan Vlahović then headed over, Serbia's fate was sealed while the Danes celebrated a second-placed finish in Group C and a Round of 16 meeting with Germany on Saturday.
