Daniel Bauer dismissed as Wolfsburg head coach
Daniel Bauer has been removed from his role as Wolfsburg head coach, the club have confirmed.
The 43-year-old departed the Wolves following Matchday 25's 2-1 home defeat to Hamburg, which was only his 15th game in charge. Managing director of sports, Peter Christiansen, has also been dismissed.
Upon the announcement, sporting director Pirmin Schwegler said, "This decision was anything but easy for us. We had hoped to turn things around together. After analysing the overall situation, we came to the conclusion that we needed to give the team new impetus to secure our place in the league.

“We are very grateful to Daniel for his commitment to the first team, but also for his many years of work as a coach in the Wolfsburg academy. We wish him all the very best for the future, both professionally and personally.”
Bauer replaced Paul Simonis in November and initially had success, winning two and drawing one of his opening four games in charge. However, Wolfsburg suffered a chastening 8-1 defeat against Bayern Munich on Matchday 16 and, after eight games in a row without a win, Bauer's position was no longer tenable.
Wolfsburg currently sit 17th, two points adrift of Werder Bremen in the relegation play-off spot with nine games remaining. The Wolves' first assignment post-Bauer will be a tricky trip to high-flying Hoffenheim on Matchday 26.
