Damion Downs joins Hamburg on loan from Southampton
Hamburg have bolstered their attacking options with the signing of USMNT forward Damion Downs on loan from Southampton until the end of the season.
HSV acted quickly to secure the services of the 21-year-old, who made 14 appearances across all competitions for Southampton in 2025/26.
"Over the past few days, we have worked very hard to secure Damion and are delighted that we were able to convince him of HSV and our approach," said board member Eric Huwer.
The German-born USA international made his Bundesliga debut for Cologne in 2023/24, opening his account on his fourth outing but was unable to prevent the Billy Goats' relegation into the second tier.
Returning 10 goals and three assists in 29 games during the Cologne’s 2024/5 Bundesliga 2-winning campaign, Downs was nominated for the USMNT, coming on in a 4-0 defeat to Switzerland in June 2025 before securing a move to Southampton in July.
Returning to Germany's top flight, Downs brings credible experience to Hamburg as he looks to help secure their Bundesliga status.
Downs, who will wear the No. 19 shirt, said: "I’m extremely happy to be joining HSV and looking forward to the journey ahead with the club. I had good talks with the sporting directors, which gave me a good feeling about the task at hand."
