Included in the deal is an option for the Sinsheimers to buy the talented 19-year-old forward, who has made five total Bundesliga appearances and one in the UEFA Champions League for Dortmund since being handed his debut by then-manager Nuri Şahin back in October 2024.

"Cole is a talented winger with great potential who we’ve been watching for a long time. He has high speed and qualities in one-v-ones. He can be used in different ways on the wings. We’re convinced he can give our team added impetus,” said Hoffenheim managing director Andreas Schicker.

Born in Houston, Texas, to an American father and Icelandic mother, Campbell – who is capable of playing on either wing – joined Atalanta United’s youth academy before moving across the Atlantic to Hafnarfjordur in Iceland, where he made his senior debut aged 15, as well as six appearances in 2021/22.

A brief intermediary spell for Breiðablik preceded the switch to Dortmund in Summer 2022, where he has remained since, netting 18 goals and contributing 19 assists across 52 games at U17 and U19 levels, as well as two goals in 13 appearances for the reserves.

Campbell can also boast experience at international level, with two goals in seven appearances for the Iceland U17 team, as well as five goals in 11 across the USA’s U17, U19 and U23 sides.
