Claudio Pizarro testimonial match confirmed for September
Claudio Pizarro will be honoured with a testimonial match involving former Bayern Munich, Werder Bremen and Peru teammates of the Bundesliga legend on 24 September 2022.
Pizarro called time on a goal-filled career at the end of 2019/20, but was denied a farewell match by the coronavirus pandemic. The 43-year-old can now look forward to a belated send-off at Bremen's Weser Stadion, where he is scheduled to play the full 90 minutes, featuring for Bayern, Peru and Werder XIs.
Pizarro hung up his playing boots as a six-time Bundesliga champion, and scorer of 197 goals across 489 games in Germany's top flight. He enjoyed two long and successful spells at Bayern, including as part of Jupp Heynckes' 2012/13 treble-winning troupe, and four in the colours of Bremen, having initially joined Die Grün-Weißen from Allianza Lima in 1999.
The 85-time Peru international has made more Bundesliga appearances than any non-German national, and remains the oldest marksman in the 59-year history of Germany's top-flight. 'Piza' delivered his final Bundesliga goal on 18 May 2019, aged 40 years, seven months and four days, in a Bremen win over RB Leipzig.
