Claudio Echeverri to return to Manchester City from Bayer Leverkusen
Bayer Leverkusen have confirmed that Claudio Echeverri’s season-long loan from Manchester City will end this winter and that he will return to the English Premier League club.
Echeverri, 19, joined Leverkusen last summer but has struggled for playing time in a competitive attacking midfield spot, making only three starts across 11 appearances in the Bundesliga and UEFA Champions League, never playing more than an hour.
As a result, the Werkself have agreed with parent club City to cut short the loan.
Head coach Kasper Hjulmand announced the decision at his press conference ahead of the Matchday 15 encounter at RB Leipzig, explaining that the Argentine “won’t be in the squad”.
Echeverri’s final appearance was as a five-minute substitute in December’s 2-2 draw at home to Newcastle United in the Champions League. His only assist for the club came in the draw by the same scoreline at Copenhagen in the opening game of the league phase.
