Bayer Leverkusen's Patrik Schick enters the records books with stunning goalscoring run
Six games, six goals, and a place in Bayer Leverkusen’s history books. Patrik Schick continued his remarkable start to the 2026/27 Bundesliga campaign on Sunday, scoring the winner in a 2-1 comeback victory over Freiburg to establish a new club record.
There appears to be no stopping Schick at the moment. The Czech international has been in irresistible goalscoring form since the beginning of the season, and his latest contribution proved particularly significant as Leverkusen inflicted a first league defeat of the season on previously unbeaten Freiburg.
With the scores level at 1-1 and just 14 minutes remaining at the BayArena, Schick was in exactly the right place to convert Ibrahim Maza's cutback after a superb piece of individual skill from the young midfielder.
It was a relatively straightforward finish for a player of Schick’s quality, but one that carried considerable historical significance.

The 30-year-old became the first player in Leverkusen’s history to score in each of the opening six matchdays of a Bundesliga season, surpassing the previous club record of five set by Dimitar Berbatov in 2005/06 and Stefan Kießling in 2009/10.
Having already established himself as the club’s highest-scoring non-German player in Bundesliga history earlier this season, Schick is continuing to enhance his reputation as one of the most reliable forwards in the German top flight.
His latest achievement is all the more impressive given the injury problems that have interrupted previous campaigns. Now fully fit and firing, the attacker is enjoying the most prolific start to a Bundesliga season of his career.
Sunday’s victory was about more than individual records, however. The result continued Die Werkself’s impressive recovery from their opening-day defeat to Elversberg, with Martínez’s side now having collected 13 points from a possible 15.
It also moved Leverkusen into fourth place, level on points with Freiburg and just one behind leaders Bayern Munich, underlining their credentials as top-four contenders.

"Of course [the record] makes me proud," Schick stated after the Freiburg win. "Six in a row, it's very nice. I'm lucky that I keep scoring and I will continue like that. Let's see where I stop!"
His personal best of 24 league goals, achieved during the 2021/22 season, remains some way off, but his current form suggests he could be in contention to challenge that tally.
For now, though, the focus will be on maintaining Leverkusen’s momentum when they travel to Hoffenheim on Matchday 7.
