Christian Eriksen “doing well” after collapsing during Denmark friendly
Wolfsburg’s Christian Eriksen is in a stable condition and is undergoing further tests at the hospital after collapsing during Denmark’s international friendly with Ukraine.
The 34-year-old collapsed in the 65th minute of the game, but after receiving treatment, he was later able to walk off the pitch. The friendly was subsequently abandoned.
The Danish national team doctor, Morten Boesen, has since offered a promising statement on Eriksen’s condition.
"Christian is doing well and walked off the pitch by himself," he said.
"As I see it, the pacemaker responded as it should. He was briefly gone, but very quickly regained consciousness, and we were quickly in contact with him.”
During the 2020 UEFA European Championship in 2021, Eriksen suffered a cardiac arrest during Denmark’s game with Finland and subsequently was fitted with an Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD) – a type of pacemaker.
"Now he needs to be examined further in the hospital to find out what caused the incident,” Boesen continued.
"We are in constant contact with him and the doctors at the hospital, but Christian is doing well, and he asked me to greet all the players and say that he was OK."
Eriksen featured in all 34 of VfL Wolfsburg’s Bundesliga games this season and was making his 151st appearance for Denmark before his collapse.
