Chelsea recall Aarón Anselmino from season-long loan spell at Borussia Dortmund
English Premier League side Chelsea have recalled Argentinian defender Aarón Anselmino from his season-long loan spell at Borussia Dortmund.
Anselmino, 20, was signed back in August on a contract originally scheduled to run until 30 June 2026 to provide extra defensive cover following injuries to fellow Borussia centre-backs Emre Can, Nico Schlotterbeck and Niklas Süle.
The former Boca Juniors player has had an unfortunate time with injuries himself, having spent two significant spells on the sidelines since joining the club.
After sitting out eight games in September and October, Anselmino made his comeback from a separate thigh issue in Saturday’s 3-0 win at Union Berlin - his first appearance since early December.
The youngster made 10 appearances for Borussia in all competitions, including six in the Bundesliga, one in the DFB Cup and three in the UEFA Champions League.
His only goal for the club came in late November, when he opened the scoring for Niko Kovač’s side in an eye-catching 2-1 Bundesliga victory at Bayer Leverkusen.
Kovač has been full of praise for the young defender, telling Sky last month: "He fights with crusader spirit. You need defenders who love defending. The boy does that excellently. I love players like that, who do their job with dedication and passion."
