Borussia Mönchengladbach have confirmed the loan signing of Bayer Leverkusen’s Argentinian forward Alejo Sarco until the end of the season.

The 20-year-old will wear the number eight shirt at Gladbach, and Borussia’s head of sports, Rouven Schröder, is hoping the youngster can add depth to a Foals attack that has suffered this season through injuries to key players like Tim Kleindienst.

“Alejo is a talented, physical, and pacy striker who knows how to find the back of the net, isn’t afraid to get stuck in, and has a strong left foot," said Schröder. "Through this loan deal, we will be able to add to our options in attack.”

Sarco joined Leverkusen in January 2025, having come through the academy at CA Vélez Sarsfield in his native Argentina. He made his Vélez debut at just 18 in March 2024, going on to make a total of nine appearances for the club as they won the Primera División.

After appearing for Leverkusen’s U19s last season, the Argentina youth international has begun to make his mark at senior level this season with three brief appearances off the bench.

Sarco will be hoping to add to those numbers at his new club and will take part in his first training session on Wednesday.

“Borussia are a big club,” Sarco said. “I’m looking forward to taking up the challenge here and hope that I will be able to repay the trust that’s been placed in me.”

At international level, Sarco has already made 19 appearances for Argentina’s U17, and he also made the squad for the U20 FIFA World Cup in the summer. He started all seven of Argentina’s games, scoring four goals as they made it to the final, where they lost 2-0 to Morocco.

If all goes well with Sarco’s integration, he could even make his Gladbach debut on Sunday 25 January when the Foals host Stuttgart.
