Borussia Dortmund vs. Schalke: Revierderby highlights

Forged in the mines and steelworks of the Ruhr region, the cities of Dortmund and Gelsenkirchen have a long held a local rivalry. However, with the decline of industry in the area during the 1970s and 80s, attentions began to turn to football as two of Germany’s footballing powerhouses battled for supremacy.
The Black-Yellows and Royal Blues have met 99 times in the Bundesliga since its inaugural campaign in 1963. BVB hold a narrow advantage there with 37 wins to 32 for Schalke (D30), with a recent run of four straight victories now also taking them past the Royal Blues in the head-to-head in all competitions since that year (39-37; D31).
Even their draws are the stuff of footballing legend, with Schalke once blowing a 3-0 lead at the Signal Iduna Park to be held at 3-3, before turning the tables in even more spectacular style by coming from four goals down in Dortmund to draw 4-4 in injury time in 2017.
