Borussia Dortmund Legends and PERSIB All Stars shine in friendly

The Borussia Dortmund Legends team overcame their Indonesian counterparts, the PERSIB Bandung All Stars by 4-0 in an entertaining friendly on Sunday.

In front of over 10,000 spectators at the Siliwangi Stadium, David Odonkor gave the BVB legends the lead while Ibrahim Tanko, Jan Koller and Dede added further goals for the visitors after the break. 

The game was split into two halves of 35 minutes and featured a Persib All Stars side that contained several of the players who won the Indonesian championship in 1994/95 and 2014/15. Taking to the field for the Dortmund legends alongside the aforementioned Odonkor, Tanko, Koller and Dede, meanwhile, were Roman Weidenfeller, Marcel Schmelzer, Kevin Grosskreutz, Paul Lambert, Florian Kringe, Jörg Heinrich, Toni da Silva, Mladen Petric and Mo Zidan.

The Legends match against Persib All Stars marked the intensifying ties between Indonesia and Germany following the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Persatuan Sepakbola Seluruh Indonesia (PSSI) and Deutsche Fußball Liga (DFL) signed in June 2023 and aimed at strengthening the role of football in Indonesia. Over the course of the MoU, both parties have committed to conduct training activities and sessions as well as to collaborate in the organization of joint marketing activities, and the match kick off series of upcoming activities as part of the agreement. 

"Through this match, we aim to not only strengthen the ties between our two clubs but also to contribute to the overall development of football on a global scale," Teddy Tjahjono, Deputy CEO of PT PERSIB Bandung Bermartabat, said ahead of the Dortmund All Stars and Persib All Stars game. "We recognize the responsibility we have to inspire the next generation and create a positive impact through the sport we love" Tjahjono added.

Speaking ahead of the game, Gabriella Witdarmono, Commercial Director of PT PERSIB Bandung Bermartabat, said: "We extend our gratitude to BVB Dortmund for their shared vision and enthusiasm. As part of the five-day trip, the BVB legends are taking part in various activities and training sessions with commercial partners and fans in Jakarta and Bandung with the aim of promoting football development, cultural exchange and community engagement.
